I see what you mean. I don't care for man made laws in the church, but respect Gods rules.

I am a Christian, I have a wonderful church and I absolutely believe in the bible...but the reason I am answering is because I am wondering if Ronin read the rest of Exodus or if he just goes through the bible looking for parts of stories that are bad...like when that happened in Exodus God was telling Moses what will happen because the Pharaoh wouldn't let the Israelites go from slavery.

Yes. I've been so disappointed in a lot of churches because of what they teach, and the meaningless things they hold up to be so important.
For example, many Christians believe that dancing is evil, earrings are evil, rock music is evil, alcohol is evil... and the list goes on and gets weirder. Why waste our time and energy on worrying about those things?
People become so legalistic that they stop being kind. They forget about Jesus' teachings, which are so important in our lives.

Actually the bible does it just fine by itself:
Exodus 11:5 And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.
11:6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.
11:7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel
Deut 20:16 But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:
20:17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:
Even Hitler only tried to elminate one race, god as after like 7 or so.

a thousand times, yes!
If you read the Bible for its themes and messages other than specific commands, you get a very different story. The teachings of Paul and Jesus were liberal for their time. Translation problems, distortion problems by men who wanted power, and cultural problems are ways which the BIble has been misinterpreted and used for personal gain. I really don't like church.

What puts me off a church is if they try to teach something that does not come directly from the bible. I follow God's Word, not the church's word.

Yes, that is what put me off originally. And the hypocrisy.
Fortunately, I don't blame God for it, and I was able to come back, even though it took over ten years.

It was the Bible. I saw nothing wrong with the message of "be good to your neigbor" yadda yadda. But the hypocritical, patriarchal BS of the Bible and its numerous contradictions are what turned me completely off to religion.
