I purchased 21 double hung windows for my house and combination storm windows, all Andersen. When I open the storm window on the combination, and open the upper sash on the window, the window howls like blowing over a beer bottle. It does not take much air flow to cause this. It scares my kids and keeps me awake at night. It sounds like a giant pipe organ or house of horrors. We puchased double hung windows with combination screen units to allow ventilation using the upper sash when it rains.
Andersen is one of two companies that offer combination screens with vinyl windows (and the most expensive).
The Andersen folks say they have never heard of this and it must be my house. They also say that it is not a design flaw, and I should just go away.
Has anyone else installed these windows and combination screens had the howling issue ?
Does anyone know how to contact the CEO of Andersen ?

Do *all* of the windows do this?

If so - the Anderson service person you talked to is probably right. (Though, that does sound really strange.)

If it's only a few it may be an installation issue, or an issue with that batch of windows (in other words, not a design flaw, but a manufacturing flaw.)

Try having someone in the field (window/carpentry/etc) come to your house to listen for themselves, and see what they think.
There may be a quick & easy fix, even without replacing the windows.

If it's determined to be a problem in how those particular windows were manufactured, and there's no quick & easy way to fix the problem - I don't know Anderson's policy on that, but hopefully you can talk with them and get them replaced/fixed... Otherwise, when speaking to the service rep, ask for their supervisor, and that supervisor *should* know how to contact the higher-ups...

Good luck!

Yes, we have howling during strong winds. Not much you can do with the darn things either. I'd say Google Anderson & go that route.
Good Luck!

Well my brother is a Gemini and he currently is staying with me. Now, he definitely doesn't go to bed at a decent time. He would never say...."I'm too old for that", "I'm ready to have a long term relationship with someone (and follow through with it)", "I know exactly about my life and the direction that I'm going in", "Let me open that car door", "I'm going to read my book instead of going to a club". Just to name a few.
