Just because a person is single it dosent necessarily mean that they are lonely....many people prefer to live single lives, because they like that way, and they still lead full lives in every possible way...some might say being married they are limitations, that stops one from being themselves, because they are married, and that things become stale, and stagnant, but that being single means being free... your able to do what you want without answering to anyone, now which one would you say lives longer. Remember even single people can get pregnant, and have children, many do, regardless of the circumstances, ask the question is a single person with children really alone?.....

I wonder if they did any studies on a good marriage vs a bad marriage and longevity. Sometimes it looks like people die to escape bad marriages! lol It seems to me that married people are going to take care of each other and encourage each other to be healthy. Couples will give each other emotional support thru bad times and often come with an extended family who also will offer support. I know loneliness is hard on the body and that is a big deal but I think that there has got to be other variables thrown in there.

yes,i think that loneliness can shorten your life because married have more fun even if you do think so because they do not have to think of how they are going to be with and what they are going to do for the rest of the life.

Lots of reasons...

Lonliness does count. It also leaves you without mental stimulation which can shorten your mental health life... the mind has to be stimulated to be healthy.

Married people as a whole eat more meals at home instead of out, especially if they have kids... less cholesterol means less heart trouble.

And finally happiness is a state of mind and those that are happy live longer... I haven't met too many lonly people that were happy.

Well not really, u don’t have to be married to be happy..u can have a great group of friends and family... sometime people who get married regret it, cuz u give up a lot of things..its not "u" anymore.. its "we" or "us"...n that’s is not fair somtimes..
I really think it depends on the person on how they feel abt their life n if they r happy with it...n if they r they will live longer...

LONELINESS DOES NOT SHORTEN A PERSON'S LIFE BUT STUPIDITY DOES! THAT IS WHY WOMEN LIVE LONGER THAN MEN. WE ARE SMARTER!

Probably has something to do with the same scenario as why a baby that is held and loved will grow more where a baby that is not held or loved grows at a much slower rate and will sometimes actually die.

You have someone to look out for you in ways! But I don't believe that lonliness would shorten your life.

Yes, lonliness can be detrimental to your health.

Married people suffer less stress because they have a better support system for dealing with adversity. Life is easier to handle with a partner :-)
