Swimming is a great exercise. It gives an all-round cardiovascular workout. With the addition of things like woggles, aqua-dumbells, fins and paddles it can also be used to train for strength in a supportive environment. It can be one of the best re-hab aids for injured, post-op or seriously overweight people as well as being an olympic (and par-olympic) sport. That is what is good about it.

As for what is bad, the only thing I would mention is that swimming alone does not help to strengthen the bones as the weight of the body is taken by the water. It is important to maintain healthy bones, especially for women, and to do this you need to combine swimming with some form of weight bearing exercise (walking, running, weight training, step, martial arts).

Swimming is one of the best workouts. It is the lowest impact on the body and joints and is great for people who are older in the elderly years but still want to maintain a good heart and keep up with their cardio. Also for people who are obese. It allows them to keep up their heart rate enought to burn calories without destroying their muscles and joints b/c of th e weight of the fat.

Eitehr way swimming is a great alternative to use to switch up with your regular workout. Some gyms even provide the jet pools to offer more resistance in the water for more intense strength training. Adding weights to your body in the water is also good to add more resistance.

Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise that you could do. It is an excellent form of cardio (heart) workout.

And let's face it, anything that involves being in water is bound to be fun!!!!

(It's too cold though now to do this outdoors. I'd recommend an indoor swimming pool.)

Swimming can be very healthy for you, it excercises every muscle in your body. However as to the place you go swimming, if one was to swim in a sewage farm then i would have to say it would be very unhealthy for one.

Its the best, mostly because its extremely low impact and uses all the muscle group..but here is the real bonus, run around the pool chasing your kids / spouse etc and it doesnt even feel like exercise!

Swimming is extremely healthy. It's cardio vascular and resistance training in one. You use large and small muscles in your upper and lower body, so I can't think of anything else better.

The only way it would not be healthy for you is if you can't swim. Then it would pretty much suck.

swimming is increadibly good for you, it is the only exercise that works every single muscle in your body, as well as working your cardio vascular system (heart, lungs, respiration)
