A baby swan is called a cygnet. Signet, which is pronounced the same, is a type of ring.

a Cygnet. The star constellation is called Cygnet also. I don't know which came first, the name of the constellation or the young swan. By the way, the male is called a cob and the female is called a penn.

Young swans are known as cygnets, from the Latin word for swan, cygnus. An adult male is a "cob", an adult female is a "pen".
