I have experienced the racing heart beat while on Lexapro. When I first started taking it (one week ago) I felt like I was high. As I let my body adjust to it, I felt way better. It is true that it takes a couple of weeks for you to adjust to the medicine. There are also two people in my house hold who have been on it for years. They felt the same way but over time they adjusted to it. I never could sleep at first either. I started taking it at night but switched to the morning. After 5 days went by I started sleeping really good. If you get on the internet and look up the side effects of Lexapro, some people say it causes them to feel sleepy. So hun give your body time to adjust before you switch. Too much switching can make things way worse.

RE:
Lexapro side effects. Anyone had sweating and racing heart?
My doc put me on lexapro for anxiety and post partum. I tried taking it at night but, felt like a zombie all day. It worked well for me in the morning. Lexapro was an instant. I did not know how stressed I was until I started taking it.I kept breaking out in sweats really bad and racing heart...

Lexapro usually takes several weeks to have its FULL EFFECT in your system. I take Lexapro every winter; I suffer from severe SAD (seasonal affective disorder)...
I too, experienced the sweating you talk about; mine mostly at night while in bed. But I'd much rather deal with some sweating, than the depression I was feeling prior. I did not experience the racing heartbeat though. Did your doctor seem concerned about the heartrate at all? That would be my only concern... Perhaps you are unable to take SSRI treatments; which Lexapro is.

The side effects DO subside - but you weren't on it long enough for that to happen. It takes a good six weeks for your system to completely assimilate the lexapro. Ask your dr to give you the
lexapro, stick with it long enough to get past the side effects & I'm
sure it will help you. Hang in there dear - with all those woderful babies, I know how busy you are & how stressful it can be. Ask your hubby for more help & support . . .

You can take Lexapro in conjunction with something to combat the side effects, such as Klonapin. That combo worked for me for a long time. I highly suggest Lexapro. I was on it for three years!

Hi...I started out with Zoloft, but it increased my anxiety level, not decrease it. So I tried all that you have tried with similar results. The SSRI's all seem to have that effect on me. If you were having anxiety and panic attacks ( which your symptoms indicate ) before the SSRI's, then it may be you need Xanax. I take Xanax at a very low level just .5mg but I take it four times a day as a preventative measure that way, I don't have to experience the panic effect and wait for the meds to kick in.( It seems like forever). It also allows me to tolerate 200mg Zoloft. Yes, there are many triggers for a panic attack. Stress seems to be number 1, and it seems you have plenty of that. If you are not bi-polar, or suffer chronic depression. you shouldn't be taking anti-depressants anyhow. Oh, I almost forgot.....Yes, it can take up to 4 weeks for anti-depressants work. Four very long weeks. My studies have shown there is no 'natural' alternative. If there seem to be for some people, it is the placebo effect, and when it wears of, reality sets in and it's often worse than before I wish you peace......G You may want to take a look here: http://crazymeds.com

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!
