office 2002 and XP? I know. I guess it maybe office(word) bug. So, you would better update word. The word program has searching multi-media file. Sure, multi-media file not in file. But, it is word program itself bug.
I have been to talk to MS office helper. Please, update your word program at www.Microsoft.com. Look 'microsoft update'.
Good luck.

This may not work, but give it a go:
1. Open your doc.
2. Press CTRL +A to select everything in the document.
3. Press CTRL + C to copy.
4. Press CTRL + N to create a new document.
5. Press CTRL +V to paste the document.
6. Save the document with a new name.
7. Check the header and footers in each document section are correct.
8. Close Word and reopen it.
9. Open the new version of document.
If this has not solved the problem then you need to investigate size and number of any images in the document. Whether the document is saved on a network. Whether the template used to create the document is on a network.
