This is a bit of an announcement as well as a question....A lot of you already know that I foster children, and I have just received into my care permenantly a 12 yr old girl, I have been involved in her life for approx 3 mths prior to moving in with me, pending adoption. The question I would like to ask is ideas for a party for her, in a few weeks time, giving her time to settle in and all that.

Little one does know all the family and from your suggestions already I now have a little bomb going off all round my living room as she just cottoned on to what I have asked you all. Also I need to mention the little darling for all that has gone on till she got here is very outgoing and not a bit shy

Quicksan...tis is the UK & I already have 2 other foster children AND FOR ME & all the foster parents HERE, WE DO NOT DO IT for the so called cheque in the post. If you have nothing better to say than being so nasty then I suggest its YOU that needs to see a clinical phsyciatrist. Reported for being out & out right nasty

Those 'pamper parties' are great for the girls.......where I live (Liverpool) there is loads of party planners doing it, you pay price per head, they come to your house or you can hire a hall or something. They pamper all the kids with hairdo's, manicure - pedicure, make overs and then they all have a disco........my lil one is 6 in December and this is what I am doing for her and her friends......

Usually these party planners work from good card shops or party shops or try the internet!

Good Luck.............doing what you do, your an angel!!

I also have a foster daughter that is 12 that I adopted June of this year.Unless you are wanting it to be a surprise I would ask her what she wanted. As you know evey child is soooo different. She might like the idea of being included in some of the decision making.
I'm sorry but QUICK SAND not every foster parent is evil!! I wanted to do something in my life that helped others and I thought what better way but to help children and believe me it has been very hard helping physically, mentally and sexually abused kids.I've had my kids for over 2 years and treat them no different than the ones I gave birth to!!! Anyway if everybody done nothing then what would happen to the kids with no loving home ? It's a fact humans need to be loved and feel wanted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess what I could say for you is when you throw a party for her get music that she would like thats always the best and if you have her in school then see if she has any friends she makes and invite them having people her age that she can get along with is always best and I guess the last thing you should do is when inviting family dont have to much of the family that she doesnt really know.. to many unfamilier people could scare her. Just find fun things for her to do.

at that age you should ask her to see what kind of party she would like she may even like to help to get things started for her party,i have a 12 year old boy and if i do a party for him i ask to see what he would like it's hard to see what they like at this age they changed there minds every 2 minutes so for a safe bet and happy 12 year old i would ask, have a great time and congratulations on having a new addition to the family i hope you will all be very happy.

unless she is out going I would not recommend a large party... it could over whelm her...start out with a small party, just family and maybe a close friend or 2... then later give a girl party... friends she has met... the family could bring pics and videos of family things, showing her what family is all about... make pics and videos of the whole day, making sure she is with her new family, and show it at the end of day, and letting her know she is now a part of the whole crazy bunch !!!!! God bless

Since she will be a part of your famil permently, why not give her a "welcome to the family" party. Have your closest relatives, those that will be involved with her and those that support her, and let her invite some of her friends. Let her choose a theme, and have a good time planning and enjoy having a daughter!

why do you want to throw a party...for her...or is it for you...I don't get it....you've been involved in her life three months you said...give her time to settle in....a few weeks....it's going to take longer than that..why, do you want to show her off?...save "the Party" for her birthday, and make it soley about her, and not the fact that you picked her, she's got to deal all by herself why she isn't with her biological family, and at 12, that is hard enough....sorry..I don't see the need to celebrate you getting a check in the mail every month for fostering a kid....which ya'll do, and why most of ya's do it.....
