I shook hands with a person who has scabies before I knew they had it on their other hand. I was wondering how do I take precautions to prevent the worsening of the disease on me. I shook their hand today so I guess u can say that the physical contact was today. Help, I'm gettin' all panicky! I dont want to infect my family and dogs at home. What can I do to prevent the burrowing and other things that occur when you get scabies. Also, I have not started itching yet. I knw itching occurs a few weeks later. Please help, Thanks!

You have to wait and see if you develop any symptoms, as you might not have it. I don't think a Dr. will prescribe you the lotion/medicine until then. To be on the safe side, you should sleep in different beds and not come in physical contact with anyone untill you are satisfied....hope this helps....good luck.. ;)

scabies can happen in crowded or close living conditions, A quick handshake or prolonged hug will usually not spread it. it usually takes 4-6 weeks for infection. http://www.cdc.gov/NCIDOD/DPD/parasites/scabies/factsht_scabies.htm http://www.aad.org type in scabies in the upper right hand corner searchbox the word scabies

If you have access to the Internet, you have access to Wikipedia as well.
Do yourself a big favour and go there. Type: 'scabies'. That's it. They have a huge article on all aspects of it.

How do you know this person had scabies anyway? It isn't usually something folks advertise. Does the word paranoia mean anything to you?

If you have scabies just go to your Dr and they will give you a cream to put ALL over your body that will kill the little bastards.. next you will need to wash all your bedding / clothing in hot water to kill them. Good luck,

Don't know of a solution but you may won't to have a skin test done if it's to bad. There's a bacteria called Staphylococcus Aureas that affects the skin and causes a lot of infections (pimples, macules, pustules, etc.)

This is an excellent question to ask your doctor. CALL him/her!! People on this site are not qualified or licensed to give you medical advice. Scabies is no fun, and you definitely do not want to infect yourself or your family. PLEASE call your doctor!!

Chow!!
