The US has laws in place that prevents another draft. As military myself, I can vouch for the fact that we have plenty enoguh people who are ready and willing to volunteer to put their lives on the line for our country. But in the old draft, they did not make allowances for only children

You are referring to the Sole Surviving Son/Daughter rule. When a family has lost a family member due to service in the military, they have the potential for a deferment in peacetime only. Its not automatic and typically doesn't apply during war or nation emergency.
And they are subject to being drafted. While many people cannot fathom a draft being enacted, it would help to point out that a volunteer military is not new to the US and is the exception rather than the rule

no need to worry about it, there will be no draft. But even if there was, there is no automatic exemption. You have to apply for one and PROVE that you were the last of the bloodline. First born and aonly sons do do not get out of it. you can request that you be given a non combat role IF an immediate family member(parent or sibling) died as a result of combat.
