My mom was born and raised in Scotland and still maintains her Scottish Citzenship (she does not have an American Passport). I was born August 26 1982 in the US, and I have read that I cannot become a UK citizen because it cannot be passed through my mother since I was born before 1983. Is there anything I can do?

Note: I have read somewhere that I may be able to still get dual citizenship, but I have not been able to find that information again.

It's difficult to find anything specific on the official Home Office web site, but here is something put out by the British Embassy in Israel and pretty clear: it's very long to clip and paste here, but go to the reference page; it tells you exactly what to do.

Slight correction, although my Scottish friends may disagree. Your mum is a UK citizen not a scottish one. Good news is that I am pretty sure that you are entitled to British citizenship and a EU Passport, it is useful. Look for information on the Home Office Web site, or contact your local consulate.
