Imainge the actual image, if everyone is a cook and there is no leader, who decides what spices to put in? What if everyone put in what they thought was good? You'd have 30 spices in there!

I also like the analogy of a sailing ship captain:
Sometimes to get somewhere fast, you want to go straight at it even if there's less wind that way. Sometimes the best way is to aim at an angle from your goal to take advantage of better wind and tack back later. Sometimes they are both equal. The purpose of the captain is to make a decision (right or wrong) so that the whole ship is working towards the same goal

It is actually "Too many cooks spoil the broth".

Food taste well if cooked well by a cook. Every cook has his own way of cooking and it is an art. A little bit of spices or dressings bears teh signature of the cook.

Imagine five cooks making one dish, each one with his own way of cooking. One cook will add more salt, one will add some sugar, some may add vinegar and other contributing some thing or other. And the ego clashes will also be more and the broth gets spoiled.

Same thing is applicable to any work. Imagine 20 people trying to change the tyre of F1 car in those Grand Prix. There will not be enough space for 20 people to put their hand to the tyre and there will be delay. This results in some other driver going on to the victory stand.

Another example is a project work to be done by some one and he delegates to 5 or 6 of his assistants. Each one doing the work in their own way and not as a joint effort, will spoil the very purpose.

Any work has to be done by the person assigned. More people helping him is fine. But it shall not interfere in the final goal.

If different cooks share the work - cutting vegetables, preparing, frying and finishing individually, it results in a better team work, as there will be clearly defined assignments.

All the best

regards

the Three Stooges did a sketch where they were making something (can't recall, but I think it was beer or a cake) and each unknowingly were putting in the ingredients. Long story short- (after creating a mess) they realized..."We ALL put the yeast in!!" If you could get a copy of that to show, it would really bring home the point.

I have always heard that "too many cooks in the kitchen makes for bad stew". As someone that has been in the kitchen for many years with a lot of different grannies, aunts, and moms, I agree! Someone needs to be the one in charge.
