Someone told me that one of the parts in LCD panel is made of sugar. Any idea?

That's not true....the LCD has millions of tiny squares about the SIZE of a grain of sugar, and that's as close as it comes to "being made of sugar".

An LCD panel consists of two layers of plastic on top, a matrix (sugar sized squares) with a liquid and crystalline material that open and closes just like the blinds in a venetian blind on a window. If you apply a positive or negative voltage to the crystalline material you can open or close it.......
behind the matrix is your light source, so when the crystal is open, you see light, when closed you see no light.

An LCD panel has tiny crystals floating in fluid. They are smaller than sugar granduals.
