Fire is Red , Red color is indication of furiousness of fire, Red is bloody...like fire.......Just kidding perhaps red is the color which is readily visible from a long distance as compared to other colors, so by using this color the fire truck can be identified from a long distance so that the other vehicle drivers on the road can give side or clear passage to allow the truck to overtake them to reach the destination fast, by viewing the firetruck in their respective rearview mirrors!!

in the beginning- most folks could not read, and so they associated the RED truck with fire and would move away from the water trucks to make room for them to put out the fire. It just stayed with it. Besides those firefighters look "hot" on big red trucks with glow in the dark stripes.
Many cities made it illegal to own a red car until the early 1940's, that is why most were black, brown, blue or green.
