I ask this because I see an increasing trend of Hollywood movies that tell the same story over and over again. The best sellers are always the ones that show a hero sacrificing himself in a variety of fasions for others.

In seems to me that there's a problem with contributing this trend with social Darwinism. Self sacrifice flys in the face of social Darwinism. How could this be an evolutionary trait if it doesn't work to protect the organism that obeys it? What mechanism could cause it? Could selfless sacrifice be what truely seperates men from animals? Did God plant this conscience in us?

I'll give you a logic experiment that I think illustrates the point.

You're walking through a park when suddenly you hear a stranger's urgent cry for help. You have two options. You could run away and ignore the person, or you can run toward them and help them. What is the morally right thing to do? Darwinism would suggest our impulse should be to run, but why does that give us pause?

Yes, David said in Psalm 40:8 I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your law is written on my heart."

Because I believe in the word of God, I too believe God's word is written in my heart.

I also believe that our heart is like a container, it is filled with information and we have the choice of what to continue fillling it with. Like a glass overflowing if we continue to fill a milk glass with water, eventually the milk will be purged and all that is left is water.

If we fill our hearts with the word, the word will never be purged. Then when we are squeezed, the word will flow from us rather than something else. I believe God examines our heart, I'll keep filling it with the word.

Good question. Thanks.

Obviously not since almost no other religion has a "jesus" figure. There are some in mythology that xianity obviously borrowed from, but not in modern religion.

Social darwinism isn't even a science, it's an idea that people came up with to explain human behavior. I think it definitely has som logic to it, but it's not Darwin's ideas. Even animals band together in the face of danger or do risky things.

Do you remember the cat a few years ago that went into a burning building a few times to rescue her kittens? That made no evolutionary sense. She was half-blinded, burnt, and very weak. She would have died in the wild and the kittens were too young to survive. She could easily have left and had a new litter. Darwin's ideas do not demonstrate a specific response 100% of the time for any individual creature, but rather for the species.

No, for two reasons. First, the story of the classic hero archetype is older than Christ. For further examination, you might be interested in Joseph Campbell's book "The Hero With A Thousand Faces." And second, I've dissected a human heart. No paper in there anywhere, and muscle tissue doesn't absorb printer's ink very well. It's too soggy.

that may not extremely the tale of the King James Bible. James i became a Scottish king who became King of england. His scholars made an English language translation of the Bible so as that everybody ought to examine it for themselves. James I purely signed his call to the completed artwork, to make it the stable Bible of england and Scotland on the time. He has not something to do with the Apostle James, yet he might have finished Sainthood. This Bible is between the main conventional variations in Christianity at present.

You are mistaking Darwinism for selfishness. Evolution is about survival of the POPULATION, not necessarily about the individual.

And by the way, drop the term "Darwinism". It invokes silly emotions, but it's quite non-specific.

You are so wise. I think Christ's story is imprinted on everyone's heart and that because he made such a huge sacrifice it is imprinted on all humans. That's why atheist, evolutionists etc. all have moral feelings. All in there own time do good for others and reach out to others. God bless you!

Yes, God plants conscience in our hearts and minds. You KNOW that the morally right thing to do is help the person in the park.

Christ can only live in our hearts if we invite Him in.

when you want to make money - start something with a religion. In USA you can make a wooden cross with ice cream sticks and sell in front of the Churches. They will pay 2 to 15 dollars for each. In middle east do something Islamic.
Religion is a moving item today with this religious ediots. Trust me.

2 Corinthians 3:2-4 (New International Version)

2You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. 3You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

4Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God.
