No doubt there are people that lie on here and are total wannabes. Some people are jerks. BUT it is also true though that nearly every poll and other things that measure demographics most often allow people to choose only ONE category in regard to race. Which is entirely ridiculous since most people are bound to be a mix of something these days.

I am glad to include my D/Lakota and Choctaw genes along with all the rest if I am talking about genealogy and what I'm made of. But while I have that, who I was born was still just a girl that is mostly white and the world will perceive me that way whether I like it or not. So when I have to pick that ONE category, I can't lie and I have to choose what that world perceives me as.

Some people though don't think and only pick (or talk on here as) what they WANT to be perceived as, not how they are really seen.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who do have it, but that percentage may account for just those that were actually surveyed and had Native heritage enough that they could choose that category. Personally I think surely the percent is higher then 3 since many people don't get polled. It may only be from a count based on some "middle America" areas that have a low Native percentage and not necessarily the real percent of the country's population.

I agree everyone claims to have Indian in them but yet the Indians have been forced into small parts of the land are largely live in poverty (thanks to the govt) and they keep to themselves. They don't widely accept even Native Americans that are half blood (for ex. the mother is Native and dad is white) so to claim that as your hertiage I always think is funny. People will be as white as me (blonde/blue eyes/very pale) and say "Oh I have 1/4 Indian" and I just laugh.
On the same note my family when I was growing up took in a 100% Cherokee Indian girl because her family was alcoholics and abusive (also common in the culture) I do not have my last Sociology book to note this fact but it had all the numbers. So I compare anyone that thinks their Indian to my Aunt Tammy who is 100% and just laugh because they have no idea. Especially knowing what she came from and the relief my family gave her, giving her a home off the reservation. Heck by growing up with a full blood Indian probably make me more Indian than the people claiming to be.
I say if you claim in then do something to help your people. But the fact is your blood is not pure and they will not accept you.

it extremely relies upon on the form you define "community American". It was that if a individual became a million/8th black (an Octaroon) that individual became seen Black. I advise you forget the three% crap. bypass ask any of your persons - till they are contemporary immigrants there'll likely be a minimum of 30-40% of them with some Indian blood of their previous - even the Blacks who're "Redbones". case in point - I extremely have Narragansett Indian blood (ny and the 24 beads). as quickly as while in l. a. I shaped a band and located that each and every of the individuals had some Indian blood, frequently Cherokee, Mohawk and Sioux. not certainly one of them claimed to be a "community American". Many celebrities have Indian blood, exceedingly Will Rogers, Cher, Crystal Gayle and Johnny money. So maybe people who are not extremely legally "community American" are pushing the definition. Now in spite of if that entitles them to a "get out of penitentiary card", i think of the respond is not any.

Who is "her" and why is everyone on her?hehe
Just kidding.
I dunno, but I do get you point.I asked the question before about why so many ppl believe they are "native americans" or at least are "part native american".I think it's guilt mixed with the idea that native americans should be revered.

These people are idiots...My bf is (very small) part indian, but he never plays the "I'm an Indian" card. He's not looking for a free ride and is responsible. He believes in working for what he wants. There's the difference. Some people are lazy and are looking for a free handout however they can get it.

You only have to be 14 % native american to be considered "native American" That would make up more than 50 % of the population of the USA

when asked about my heritage I tell people I'm Norwegian/French/English/German/Native American....the only proof I have is in doing my own family research on the first 4. My Native American heritage was told to me by my late great grandfather who said he was full Cherokee...but my family has no proof on paper only his word
