Why were they called ‘Deadly’?
The church made a division between sins which were venial and could be forgiven without the need for the sacrament of Confession and those which were capital and merited damnation. Capital or Deadly Sins were so called because they could have a fatal effect on an individual’s spiritual health. British wall paintings stressed the connection between committing the Deadly Sins and ending up in Hell.

Pope Gregory the First's list included what is commonly referred to as the 7 deadly sins:
--o superbia (hubris/pride)
--o avaritia (avarice/greed)
--o luxuria (extravagance, later lust)
--o invidia (envy)
--o gula (gluttony)
--o ira (wrath)
--o acedia (sloth).
Some of the iconography of the Sins was derived from the descriptions of the Battles between the Virtues and Vices in the Psychomachia by the fourth-century poet Prudentius.
Early catologues of vice include , "The Eight Evil Thoughts" listed by Evaagrius (346-399), and John Cassian (360-435),who wrote in "Collationes XXIV" (420-429) about "the eight principal vices". The Seven Deadly Sins were described by Pope Gregory the first (the Great) (540- 604) summarized the sins into a list of 7 in his series of lectures "Moralia in Job" (Morality in Job - XXXI cap. xlv).
do not know the actual Bible verses but the verses below do explain the sins
+ Pride: Jesus said - That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. Mark 7:20-22
+ Greed/avarice/coveteousness -Mark 7:20-22
+ Lust - Jesus said, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart Mat 5:28
+ Envy - Job said, "For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one."
+ Gluttony Jesus said, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Mat 6:25
+ Wrath Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: Eph 4:31 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Col 3:8 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: Jam 1:19 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Jam 1:20
+ Sloth If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 1Cr 3:14

The generally accepted deadly sins are soberbia (hubris/pride), avaricia (avarice/greed), lujuria (extravagance, later lust), envidia (envy), gula (gluttony), ira (wrath), and pereza (sloth). Each deadly sin is opposed by one of the corresponding Seven Holy Virtues

Lust, Pride, Gluttony, Wrath (anger), Greed, Hate, Envy.
They are 'deadly' as they are punished after death in Christian tradition, being the sins most dangerous to oneself and others around you.
Dante's Inferno is particularly hot on these...

1.pride or vanity - it will get you down fast, as you think too highly of yourself and disregard your true self.
2.envy - craving over someone else's goods, instead of being happy for that person, and working to provide what you wish to have.envy leads to conflict, people think ill of other people...on a much larger scale, it can lead to war.
3.gluttony - desiring more than you need...useless resource depletion, harm to one's self (if we think about food related gluttony)
4.lust - losing your reason and feelings for mere physical pleasure...such pleasures are not wrong, but it is wrong when done excessively and for selfish purposes
5.anger - in a confrontation, instead of going a wise way, one gives in to wrath and causes harm to others (morally or physically) and loses the battle in the end, because violence never fixes a problem.
6.greed - desiring more and more material posessions, for the sake of comfort and pleasure, and ignoring all other traits of humans, such as love, compassion, joy to live...a greedy person will focus all attention on obtaining more and more, but is never satisfied with what he has.he loses his lifetime for wealth, but forgets to live it.
7.sloth - couch potatoes, people who sit all day without doing anything, be it work or fun...how can that lead to a normal fulfilling life?
And as a final mention...these are not life threatening...you can't die physically because of these...well, rarely, but the point of "deadly" sins is that they destroy your spiritual being, and prevent you from reaching a higher level of existence, keeping you tied up in all of humans' shortcomings.practically, it's a web that will try to keep you blinded, if you allow it...

no it hasn't at all
we still widely find nowadays people reading newspapers everywhere in the morning. people still read story books - one example i may give you is the story book by J.K.Rowling-the Harry Potter's series. Teacher's still prefer teaching from books rather than notebooks.
Moreover visual media is only for lazy people :couch patatoes. Computer surfing goes hand in hand with headaches, eye strain and mobility problems
