In my circustance, I was with this guy from the time I was 16, married at 18 and divorced this year at 23. I thought the world of him and trusted him with everything that I had but he constantly lied about anything and everything and then also cheated on me left and right. He's such a scumbag that he's now seeing some girl down the road from me and is still trying to get a booty call from me! Anyway, seeing how far someone could go to put their own needs first beyond the ones they claim to care about kind of conditioned me to not have much faith in the opposite sex when it comes to a committed relationship. Do I hope to be proven wrong? I pray to God that I am because I want to be able to trust someone not to do that but its kind of hard when you see it happening all of the time. I've seen family members who were married for years go out and cheat and even my own brother do it. I mean my guard is definitely up around guys that I meet but please dont miscontrue what I am saying because I do believe there are good guys that wouldn't being so selfish and just down right deceitful to cheat but in today's society where infidelity is becoming more widespread and almost expected and accepted on some level, I think these good guys are few and far between. Because of this I keep my guard up around new guys bc they have to work for my trust, however sadly enough that still doesnt gurantee a thing.

This goes way back to.....Nature.
Nature programmed man to "spread his seed", thus continuing the human race. It also programmed women, for the most part, to be maternal and loyal, thus bringing up a family.
Most men (of normal sex drive) will cheat if they get a chance. They are lying if they don't admit to this. It is a basic, natural urge. Most husbands who can afford it, end up by trading in the old model for a new one, around the age of 40-50. Sad but true. No wonder most women don't trust most men.
It is very rare indeed for a man to find everything he wants/needs in the same woman for 25 years or more....the sexual attraction eventually becomes less, as sex becomes more predictable.

The day a women trusts me I can die happy. In my 10 or so years of dating I have never been trusted which is total crap because I have never cheated on anyone or even taken down another girls number while dating someone.
I think the fault lies mainly with a minority(hopefully) of guys who play the field like there is no tomorrow.

No, that is not the truth. I think people are so caught up into thinking that everyone is out to hurt them-male or female-that they want to hurt before being hurt. Or they don't want to fully commit themselves to any one person, so they play the field and keep others dangling on a string in case they need to go back to that person. All of that is immature behavior. We have all been hurt a time or two in our lives, but we cannot take that baggage into future relationships. We could destroy a wonderful relationship before it gets off of the ground with that attitude.
Love is not supposed to hurt, but sometimes it does. All men have the potential to be good men and all women have the potential to be good women WHEN they meet the right person who brings that out of them. An example is the thing where women say they groomed their ex-man to be a good man to the woman he is currently with. That could be true, but it could also be that the next woman did not allow him to do the things to her that the past woman did. If you want respect, you have to demand respect and stick to your guns.
Also, a person will treat you the way you allow them to. Ask any man, or just think for yourself, if a woman allows you to use her for her money or drive her car around without putting gas in it, how many men do you think will do the right thing by her? But if she was head strong and very determined and tough in her own skin, how many times do you think she will be taken advantage of after it happens once?
Being faithful to your mate says alot about your character as a person. It is too easy to be unfaithful, but something altogether different when you invest the time and love into the right person to make it work, respecting her like the treasure she is. The same with a man. We have to invest time into yall and love and respect yall like we want yall to treat us.
If you want a good woman, you have to be a good man to her.

I must say this , women normally highlight on men's cheating more than men being sweet to them. It's human nature i think. Just like citizens of a country focus more on cursing the government for the money wasted rather than thanking their leader for creating jobs in the country. It's Homo sapiens man.

Some women do - maybe if they've had a bad experience?
Perhaps I'm gullable, naive or just trust worthy, but I certainly don't think all blokes cheat.
(Though I would say that men are more likely to cheat than women).

Not all men but i would say a very large proportion would do. i saw on the front of this magazine today that 67% of men would sleep with your best friend!! Then again how reliable is this source? Men i have worked with in the past particularly Furniture salesmen were cheats! (No offence to any of you furniture salesmen who dont cheat!)
