You would be much better off getting a good amateur as 'cheap' professional photographers have a nasty habit of doing things their own way, such as retaining possession and copyright to the photographs which you have paid to be taken. It appears that they have a right to do so. Their prices always inflate and end up costing large sums of money. Get some of your friends to take numerous digital photographs which you can download and 'clean up'. Any of the guests that wants a copy, email them and let them print them themselves.....

I agree with the others...it's not just about price, it's about priceless memories. When all is said and done, what you will have to look back at this unique day in your life will be the pictures and the video (if you choose to pay for a videographer). So, I think it's a wise investment to spend the amount you need to to book the photographer that will give you beautiful pictures.
That said, price does not always equal quality! My husband and I spent $2500 on wedding pictures, and we wanted to cry when we saw them. They were horrible. Overexposed or underexposed, and too messed up to even fix in Photoshop. What was worse was that our friends and family didn't take as many pictures as they would have since they thought the professional photographer was taking care of it. So most of what we have to remember our wedding by are bad pictures. =( Thank goodness the video came out well.
We went through the websites of 100 different photographers in San Diego before the wedding last year, and narrowed it down to 10. We interviewed them all in person before making a decision. We would have booked Mark Hillis from Unveiled Wedding Photography if we could have - he was already booked - so we went with the photographer we went with. =( But anyway, I do recommend Mark. Check out his website and you'll see the beautiful quality of his pics. He also has terrific portfolios if you go to see him in person, and he's very knowledgeable.
He charges $795 for 3 hours of coverage with 210 4x6 prints. There are others out there that may charge you less because they are just starting out in the business...they may or may not be just as good as Mark, but just be careful before you choose someone to check their references and ask to see pictures of recent weddings.
Good luck, and congratulations!

Keep in mind that you get what you pay for. Remember that these photos will be the only documentation of your precious memories for such an important event. When I married 20 years ago I did not have a good photographer and now, my husband is deceased, and I wish I had better photos for my children. Have an extensive interview with your photographer beforehand. Check out the resource below for questions to ask.

You are crazy to do let an amateur do this for you, especially with disposable cameras. Some wedding photograpghers will do a digital only package where you own the prints and can have them printed professionally yourself. Your one day should not be cherished with cheesy poloroids and nasty flashes with red eyes.

Open up the yellow pages or business directory and start calling them all for their prices. Then go look at their portfolios to check out their work.
Even if a friend says they can do it, check out their work first too.

Go to a local art college and put up an ad. Then you could have a student take your pictures. Ask to see their portfolio first though. Good luck!

The photographer's name is Debbie M. I highly recommend her. She has photos she can show you of her work. Her email address is debscamera@yahoo.com. You can tell her Nicole gave you her email address. Hope this helps.

how about asking a relative...disposable cameras work just as good and you can pick what "shots" you want instead of the photographer doing it for you
