I am wanting to get a small breed dog. What is the best breed to get and why?

I do work and I live in an apartment and I like pretty much any kind of dogs but to specify I am wanting one that doesn't bark and whine a lot though I know they all do when they are puppies but not all the time.

You should answer some questions before asking this.

Do you have children? Not all breeds do well with kids.

How long will you be away from the home on a daily basis? Some breeds have a tendancy to have separation anxiety more than others.

Do you live in an apartment or house? A yappy dog might disturb apartment neighbors.

How active is your lifestyle? Even some small dogs have high energy levels and require lots of excercise.

My personal experiences tho, Shitzu's are nice dogs and we have a daushchund in our home who is the sweetest little guy, but a bit yappy at strangers.

Best bet, research a variety of small dog breeds to find out about them and be more educated to pick one that will be a perfect fit for you and your home.

pick up the AKC or CKC Annual, they'll start coming out soon, I think. They list pretty much all the breeds and a bit about them, as well as breeders.
You can google for dog breeds as well. There are so many breeds and each has something good and something people don't like about them. I like Havanese. they don't shed, they're easy to train and are very sociable critters.

there all lots of breeds of dogs and you cant ask someone else. you have to look around and go on your taste. truly my opinion mutts are better, there are a lot of them in the world and not as many people want them cause they are not full breed. but just look around and get which ever one you fall in love with.

Depends on few things. Like are you allergic to dogs...they have some that are hypo. Allergic dogs...meaning they dont shed. Like a toy poodle, maltese, yorkie, etc. They are cute also. There are pugs and pom, shitz, so many....but you should actually read online what kind of little dogs suite you...yah know

good luck

It depends a lot on your daily life? Do you work? Go to school? Stay home?
Poms are ferocius little beasts that are very loyal and loving (not all are yappers).
Cocker spanials are more low key and also very loyal and loving
I have had both, but after their deaths I have chosen a beautiful big black lab.

I've got a rat terrier that weighs about 12 lbs. She's pretty tough! She keeps the bulldog and the doberman in line!! :-)

try pomerian.preferabaly a female pup.it is not importent which breed you purchase, important is how you nurture.
take care of your dog as your son and it will take care of you as your father .{or mother.}.
