Sometimes people want reassurance. There are people who want to know others have went through the same experience. Instead of running to the nurse or doctor all the time they first want to know if it is common or not.

I suppose if you are in America it's a cheap way to get a rough idea (although probably wrong) of what's wrong with you. If you are in the UK you have no excuse! I think it's OK to ask symptoms as see if anyone has had the same thing but never to take advice on a cure or substitute proper medical advice.

Maybe they want to laugh at the answers or they're hoping someone will give them better news than the doctor. It could also be thaat some are trying to find out what the average person knows about an illness before they give a speech on it or something.

a lot of times people know the answers they want to hear, and are just looking for conformation that they are right.. other times it's not that people are actually thinking about doing some of this stuff, they just had the thought pop into their brains and wanted to throw it out there.... and then the last reason is that a lot of people are just gullible and believe that there are tons of smart people just waiting to answer their questions and fix their lives... not realizing that most of the people on here are probably 13-17 years old.....

And I agree that there are people with a degree and state exams that know what there are talking about. If in doubt you can always check their answer and question history.

And some professionals, like myself enjoy their job so much that they like to share their knowledge. Sometimes you really can help someone to clarify something that a MD can't explain in plain English.
And NO, we don't know it all. that's why we only answer questions selectively.

9 out of 10 answers tell people to go to a doctor. I think they are just looking for someone to commiserate with them and give them that push. It is easier to talk to strangers about real problems then loved ones.

Perhaps they don` have the money for that and this is the best solution they can think of. If they were in Canada they wouldn`t have to worry about it. If I was sick I could go to any doctor in any hospital and see the world`s best specialists for free.

Because we are regular people who may have been through it and can give tips and suggestions. Its not like we are telling people how to treat there deadly diseases with home remedies...god..if you dont like the answers why are you on the yahoo answers site you tit.
