Does anyone know where I could look for grants or aid to go back to school?

I am a single mother of one in Idaho that just got my BS in Social Science from Boise State University in 2005. I attended a local seminar sponsored by BSU and saw many other women in situations similar to my own that were attending classes and I was inspired to return to college to complete the degree I failed to finish after high school. I was advised of many ways to obtain financial aid and received a PELL grant for each semester I attended. PELL grants do not have to be repaid so you should apply for those as well as any scholarships your university may offer for returning, non-traditional students such as yourself. Figure out what you want to study early so you don't waste time taking classes that don't apply toward your degree. It was a learning process that I finally started to figure out in my last year of attendance. I wish you luck and success in completing your college degree and I admire you for taking on the challenge. The end result is definitely worth it!

There is financial aid for individuals looking to attend school. It comes in four forms which does not cost the individual any money to use them.

First, there is the FAFSA.ed.gov website which will help you tap into need based financial assistance from the federal government and college.

Second, there is assistance on the state website located at http://heab.state.wi.us/.

Third, most college's financial aid website list private scholarships from companies and organizations.

Finally, there are free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. However, there are few scholarships out there for those who are not high school students, but it is still worth the search if you get one more scholarship.

Good luck!

I would recommend talking with the financial aid office of whatever school you want to attend and tell them your situation. Tell them that you are interested in going back to school but you want to get a federal grant established before you take any classes because of your financial situation.

I received a federal pell grant when I was going to school but I believe I applied while I was attending the college.

check with the counselors at the school of your choice. They will help, that's what they're there for!
