I've always worried it would harm her. A woman getting a hisderectomy drives them NUTS. She's an indoor cat.

She is getting old! You need to talk to your vet. If you do go through with the procedure, you will want to have blood test run before. This will let the vet know the condition of her kidneys, heart, etc. If they are not in good condition, the vet will let you know what the risk are. Too bad you didn't do this when she was a kitten. It is so much easier on them. I had a Siamese that I had spayed after her second litter and almost lost her. She did survive and lived to be 19, and was much healthier because of it.
Take care.

Its almost never too late. I agree that some illnesses are prevented when fixed. Check with a couple of vets. Every cat is different. Fixing sometimes calms pets down.

Having a hysterectomy didn't drive me nuts. Having repeated heat cycles could be driving your cat nuts though.

I don't think she is too old and of course a vet must decide if she has good kidney function to go through the operation.

If you mean she's 13 years old, it IS a little old to be spayed (and I'm a very strong advocate of altering pets). I'd check with my vet (or a couple, just to make sure they are not spaying for $$) before taking her in.

Spaying actually helps prevent some serious diseases such as uterine or breast cancer in cats.
