My uncle lived in Garden City, Mich and died in 1945. I did check 2 cemetaries near garden city with no luck but wondered if their was a place I could just do a name search.

Check out Ancestry.com - alot of information can be found there and you can get information like this. You can find out alot of information for FREE but some features you do have to sign up and pay for. I'd take a look and see if they do provide this information and go from there. You can also check did he die in a hospital or nursing home? They probably would keep records of where most people were buried. Also, where were his closest relatives buried? Sometimes one member of a family bought several burial plots all at once and then someone dies and the easiest thing to do is to bury them farther away because everything has already been arranged.
