If pre-marital sex is bad.... Why is god giving men the ok to bang away at whores just so their SEED won't be wasted by masturbating?

Good point. Says alot about the patriarchal BS of the bible, where there are women that are allowed to be treated as objects, not even worthy human beings.

uh, where is that found?

The only verse I know that talks about seed falling on the ground is when Onan withdrew before ejaculating, and the reason that was bad was because he was being disobedient, not because he spilled his seed on the ground. In the culture of the day, if a married man died before providing his wife with a child, the brother stepped in to do the job. Omar was the brother and so basically he just had sex with Tamar and didn't give her a chance to get pregnant. In those days, the man took care of the woman and widows without sons did not fare well.

The Bible never specifically mentions masturbation or states whether masturbation is a sin. There is no question, however, as to whether the actions that lead to masturbation are sinful. Masturbation is the end result of lustful thoughts, sexual stimulation, and/or pornographic images. It is these problems that need to be dealt with. If the sins of lust and pornography are forsaken and overcome - the problem of masturbation will become a non-issue.

The Bible tells us to avoid even the appearance of sexual immorality (Ephesians 5:3). I do not see how masturbating can pass that particular test. Sometimes a good test for whether something is a sin or not is whether you would be proud to tell others what you had just done. If it is something you would be embarrassed or ashamed about if others found out, it is very likely that it is a sin. Another good test is to determine whether we can honestly, in good conscience, ask God to bless and use the particular activity for His own good purposes. I do not think masturbation qualifies as something we can be "proud" of or can genuinely thank God for.

The Bible teaches us, "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). If there is room for doubt as to whether it pleases God, then it is best to give it up. There is definitely room for doubt in regards to masturbation. "For whatsoever is not of faith is sin" (Romans 14:23). I do not see how, according to the Bible, masturbation could be considered glorifying to God. Further, we need to remember that our bodies, as well as our souls, have been redeemed and belong to God. "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). This great truth should have a real bearing on what we do and where we go with our bodies. So, in light of these principles, I would definitely have to say that masturbation is a sin according to the Bible. I do not believe that masturbation is pleasing to God, avoids the appearance of immorality, or passes the test of God having ownership over our bodies.

It was forbidden because at the time, people thought that a baby was contained entirely in the man's seed, and that the female was nothing more than a womb. So to spill one's seed onto the ground was to kill a complete human being because it was 100% in the sperm.

We now know this is false.

Suzanne, the concept was also found among the ancient Egyptians, who's religious and philosophical teachings heavily influenced the semetic people who became the hebrew people. Don't forget how much of the Bible was borrowed from other pre-existing religions. In fact, the story of Adam & Eve eating the apple cannot be properly explained under the basis of the agricultural revolution, only the original herding culture of the semetic people. Under the principles of the agricultural revolution, God should have been smacking Adam upside the head for not having eaten it first of all fruits, wondering why Adam didn't want knowledge. Assuming you are correct that the semites & hebrew did not believe in the seed hypothesis, the story they borrowed came from a culture that did.

There is no permission to 'bang away at whores'. What the Bible is saying is that there are degrees of sin. Man's 'seed' is potential life. If spilled on the ground, that potential is lost. In an illicit relationship, the potential remains. Children of such relationships have the potential to be great.

After all, Jesus was a mamzer.

People from Texas should know better. You have more Bible colleges and Seminaries than any other state.
That is not in the Bible. That saying comes from Jehovah's Witnesses. They put it in their perverted scripture. It is not in the Bible. God nowhere gives man the okay to lay with a whore.

You've completely misunderstood what God tells us in the Bible. The passage regarding Onan and Tamar does not prohibit either masturbation or coitus interruptus; neither does the Bible ever glamorize or support the practice of male or female prostitution (yes, they're both mentioned).

Peace.

EDIT: "JP," that concept is not in the Bible, nor was it a popular belief among God's people; it certainly was a belief in Europe, though.

The passage you may have in mind may be the one The Holy Bible in Genesis 38:7-10 which says: "7 But Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the LORD's sight; so the LORD put him to death.
8 Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother." 9 But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the LORD's sight; so he put him to death also."

It was the custom in those days, if a married man dies, his brother was responsible to bear children with his dead brother's wife. Probably to have children who would grow up and help take care of their widowed mother. Onan did not want to have children with his dead brother's wife because he knew the children would not actually be his.

This really has nothing to do with what you are talking about . It probably has nothing to do with masturbation either. It does not say that Onan was masturbating. It probably is speaking more about the Catholic phrase "interruptous coitus" than anything else. "Interruptous coitus" means to quickly remove the penis just before ejaculation in order to not impregnate the woman with whom you are having intercourse. Catholics believe this is wrong and should not be practiced. They, of course, also know it is now wrong to have intercourse with anyone but you own wife.

In Onan's case it may have also been a false premature ejaculation in order to not impregnate the woman he was with. Either way, what he did was wrong in the sight of the Lord, so the Lord slew Him.

Neither does this passage give you a license to masturbate.

It does say not to waste your seed and by example men take whore when wives can not conceive, so it does say this, but not in one verse.

The religions of the world want you to populate the world with more of their followers.

Seed is a precious commodity and at the very least it could impregnate the whore.

(sexual knowledge was rather scant in those days)
