This may not be the healthiest thing, but what worked for me and my friends a couple of years ago was a bet. We bet enough with each other that it was great motivation for losing the weight (we're all very competetive with each other).
It included weighing in in the beginning, midway, and of course at the end, and it had to be the one closest to the targeted weight which we determined in the beginning.

Dont do fad diets! They take off nothing more than water and the weight will not stay off.
Eat a healthy diet, cut down on meat, increase veggies, stay clear of fats and sugars, and eat carbs! Not eating carbs will make you feel ill. Go for low GI carbs (look it up on the net), they fill you up and last longer. No one particular food will make you lose weight, cabbage, grapefruits, etc are not wonder foods. Eat sensibly (smaller portions), dont skip meals (especially breakfast), and eat fruit snacks between meals.
Exercise at a level which you can sustain. Walking briskly is good. Build up gradually otherwise sore muscles will make you stop. Swimming is great. Aim for 30 mins once a day. Twice if it is within your capability.
The above works. I have been averaging about 3-4 lbs per week on this since 1st July, sometimes I have lost more. But overall I have lost 4 st (56lbs)

Absolutely. The exercise will increase the number of calories you burn in a day, as well as add more muscle which will, in turn, need even more calories to burn. The healthy diet will likely decrease the number of calories you eat in a day. Water is an important factor in flushing the toxins and keeping your body running at optimal metabolism.

Hey, people keep saying to count the calories, but what worked for me, and this is not rubbish, eat six small meals a day, you can even eat upto 9pm. Take yourself out for Walks every day. You will see the differance around your waist in a week. Honestly it does work. I was a size 14 around the waist and now I can just about get into a 12, and it took me three weeks. I am eating more or less what I wish (not chips or chrisps though) but keep to the six meals at the same time every day. It will work. Cal counting never worked for me. Let me know how you get on.

100%!!!! YOU GO AND GET IT!! You should try not to eat after 6 pm, i know that you get hungry later in the evening, but if you fight it for a week, the next week wont be so hard. And the BEST excerise is swimiming. IT does everywhere in your whole body, and its fun and you dont get all sweaty, and you must drink your two litres of water to make sure you flush everything outta your system, try eating low fat stuff like fruit or nuts at night time if you really cant handle not eating nothing. goodluck. and i know you will drop a dress size ATLEAST. how much do you weigh? dont forget skinnyness is off putting, curves are much better ;-) i am a size 8/10, but most of the time i feel too skinny an wish i had a bit more meatyness on me...
