First of all, this is the wrong section for this question. It has absolutely nothing to do with religion or spirituality. Second, your question makes no sense because it's an incomplete thought, and I am no grammar freak.
Why do people get tattoos? Because they want to. Why is it your business what someone else does with their body? They get a tattoo to symbolize a life transition or becasue they like the design and see their body as a blank artist's canvas. It takes guts to get a tattoo becasue they are permanent and to get them removed is painful and expensive, which is why you should think long and hard before you get one. So there is alot of confidence involved, contrary to belief.

Tattoos are like badges or trophies.
They often mark a milestone or significant point in your life.
My tatoos are of religious and ceremonial significance.
I have one on my chest marking my beliefs and one on my forearm marking my marrage.
Ive also been pierced 24 times for various significant purposes.
I prefer to call it "Body Adornment".
Give it a go, the sensation is addictive.

who is "they"?? and people have a right to express things that mean something to them. thats y they do it..some do it for other reasons, like to look sexier or edgier. i got mine because i was 18 and i was a rebellious teenager who wanted to express myself with art on my back. i never have regretted it either, and i have been confident in everthing about myself so it has nothing to do with confidence or satisfaction...its just a choice and a way of being unique and vocal through your body art

I have extensive tattooing, and it is all artwork. There is nothing wrong with my level of self confidence.I have a very healthy ego.Perhaps you are dealing with a bit of insecurity, judging from your need to ridicule total strangers.

My ancestors were Picts who tattooed their whole body so I got a tattoo to pay homage to them.

For most, sadly, it's just because everyone else is doing it. What used to be a rarity has become a freakin' uniform, like the piercings and the goatees.
It's gotten to the point that I am proud to be "plain."

what? you make no sense. and its tattoo. there is no "e". and people get them because they like them. and its their body so what do you care? people like them because they are pretty or they have something meaningful behind it. their body is a blank canvas and the tattoo is the art.
