North Korea is like a child that wants to feel among. And the only way to stop it from being a super bully is to make it happy by giving it a chance to develop. And when development starts and economic growth begins like all third world nations, it would have internal strives and power struggles begins and before you know they would start asking for democracy. And the western powers can move in and do what they do best. create another Iraq.

That would just be inviting others to use the same methods to blackmail the rest of the world. There are no good answers. I lean toward becoming much more of a protectionist, not becoming involved in anything not necessary for the protection of our country. North Korea has a nut as a leader there is no logical method of dealing with him.

North Korea HAS been offered help many, many, many times by the EU, USA etc....
But have refused it everytime!
The people are ruled by terror and fear.
Their leaders don`t give a damn about anything but power!
Even China, their staunchest allies are fed-up with them & they supply most of North Koreas needs. If they pull the plug North Korea is well and truly stuffed.

We do give them food aid. Which they constantly try to siphon to their military. (Thier army is 10 times bigger than the U.K's)

They have next to no economy. They have one and only one card to play. Nukes for aid. That's why America is trying to ignore them (why reward a naughty boy)

But with the current tensions with Iran who are only TRYING to develop these weapons, Iraq etc. I think limited air strikes would serve as the message.

Thus leaving them in a position of:-

A) Start a war and get annihilated. (Not that they care about their own casualties)

B) Do nothing.

If you were a extremely intelligent, dictator which of the two choices would you choose?

North Korea' leaders would destroy us in a heartbeat if they could. That will NOT change. Helping them boost their economy
would free up their resources to build more nuclear weapons. YOU are NAIVE.

Name three things that North Korea has done to earn the trust of the free world.

Why do we have to give them? Why is it our fault? Why do you think that by helping them with their economy every one in their government are going to start liking the western countries. Do you think that the western countries haven't offer them all of this that you are talking about and they are still being the same as now. In order for the west to give them help, the North Korean have to stop with what they are doing, and then ,only then we could talk about their economy. We did it with the country of Libia and is working...

North Korea wont accept aid, they see it as a plot by the west to undermine the communists rule

Please, please, their economy is in a mess precisely BECAUSE they have focused all there resources on building up their armed forces. They have a million men under arms. You can't reason with power mad dictators. Your proposal would merely help them to carry on in that way. THIS IS ALSO THE PROBLEM WITH AFRICA. There are more than enough problems in this country to solve; why are we obsessed with trying to deal with the problems of other countries when we can't even deal with our own. Our largesse isn't endless.

Your opinion seems to be so common that it must have been fostered by left leaning teachers/lecturers. They live in a dream world as well.

No. Giving in to bullies is never the answer. All that would do is embolden them because they'll know that everyone is scared of them. It is NKs responsibility to try to get along with the international community, not the other way around.
