What if Mohammed was just a ticked off crazy exile who talked to ghosts?
What if Jesus was no more than an ancient hippy who made up the idea of being the son of God? Many have done that over the years.
What if Buddha was just an overweight guy in a trance; too heavy to move about?
What if Moses was just afraid of fire and heard strange voices and answered them?
What if we all are just humans, brothers under the skin, with no god or magic powers but only each other to rely on?
Just asking!

And what if Adolph Hitler was just a grubbly little meglomaniac with a severe inferiorty complex? And George Dubbya is an intellectually challenged moron who believes that war might help a flagging economy and maybe lift popularity ratings? What if Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were just normal everyday people who have to attend to their bodily functions every morning just like the rest of us? I reckon you are onto something! What they all have in common with Jesus, Mohammed, Moses and Buddha is that they are/were just humans! Who elevates them to such dizzy heights??? We other humans. I just don't get it - and the questions you ask are the kind of questions we should all be asking. No one person should ever have that much power over so many others. I believe in the power of the universe and the power of kharma. What you do in your life is what your life becomes. Be good and you will have a good life. I don't need some ancient hippy, overweight hallucinating guy, crazy exile or any other mere mortal telling me what to believe or how to live my life. Thanks for your what ifs!

Even if he was just a hippy, I'm going with Jesus. Worst case scenario you live a life helping others, that is fulfilling, and full of love. Best case scenario you go to Heaven and spend eternity in paradise. It's a win-win baby.
