Most of the Christians I have encountered have never thought to question their religion because it has been decided for them this is the way the world is, this is its truth. Some I know have never even read the Bible and rely on other's interpretation to tell them what the "Good Book" says. This is sad indeed because they are Protestants and that was the whole purpose behind the Protestant Reformation. You will find many out there who believe their's is the only path as that is what the Bible and most preachers have you believe. Jesus was the one who said deeds would get you in, while Peter or Paul demanded acceptance of Jesus as the one true Messiah. There are arguments against this statement that I will not go into here.
As to why they don't respect other religions, this is another generalization, but one I have been guilty of making. My current roommate has tried several times to convert me to Christianity and despite my attempts to dissuade her she doesn't seem to get the message. My mother, also a Christian, explained the Bible emplores Christians to be missionaries and attempt to convert nonbelievers. Whether or not they view it as nonsense one would only have to look at some of the questions and responses on this forum to find evidence of that. I have found also they don't like it when you use the words "convert," "intolerance," and "close-minded" when talking to a Christian.
It's also interesting to note that even though Christmas and Easter are celebrated as national holidays, some Christians have the nerve to say their religion is oppressed. I see no Beltaine sales or Ramadan bargains. I don't receive Yom Kippur cards every year regardless of what I believe. I don't see Happy Kwanza signs hanging in store windows. Isn't that interesting?

Not ALL Christians find ALL other faiths ridiculous. Some do some don't. Just like some Muslims think Christians are ridiulous and can't understand why we don't believe Muhammed was a prophet sent by God (Allah). We should respect each other opinions, understand what their religions truly teach and respect each other as humans. It's the lack of respect that shows often. I am Catholic and am always reading about other faiths and nations and cultures. It amazing me what's all around this planet. Of course with billions of people you will have thousand of religions and millions of ideas and opinions. We need to understand where each is coming from, why they have choosen to follow their religion and respect it. It is great to have respectful and intelligent conversations about it all. It's good to learn. And if no one wants to convert, then so be it. But God, Allah, Buddha, Confucious, etc. all have said to talk about them. We are of our faith and we are to tell others about ouf faith. It's up to each person to decide for themselves what is real and not real and what is best for them. In the end of it all, we will finally find out the Truth.

Georgia is right: A lot of people feel that "you have to have faith" or "Satan is working on you" if you question some fundamental beliefs. If you get frustrated in the middle of questioning, then "God is working on your conscience and that is why you are upset."
But not everyone is like that. I may be sinning, but I am thinking critically and not accepting it without question! :) (I don't think I am sinning anyways.)
There ARE many Christians who believe this. I know one pastor who told a lady that she was sinning when she asked a question about God. She wasn't even talking to him! He just overheard her. It is based on John 14:6 "I [referring to Jesus] am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me." So according to that verse, if you don't go through Jesus, you don't go to heaven. I was taught this and know MANY other people who were as well, so it is a valid question. Not everyone believes it, but there are many who do.
That is where Christians get that other faiths are wrong. I believe in respecting other religions and other people. Anyone can be wrong. I guess we will find out eventually!

In my opinion christians are condiioned to believe that their faith is the only way to believe in the greater of good. They practice and partake in common actions that are known to be used in those forbidden and tabooed cults. A butt load of so called christians but NOT all believers are narrow-minded and condemning. There really is no rhyme or reason why christians find all other faiths ridiculous, however, this type of prejudice does not help the christians cause nor does it inspire the teachings of God, it only antagonizes seperation, and division, amongst Gods peoples.

I haven't found this to be entirely true. You are going to have extremists in every religion. We have them in mine, I know. But for those who truly embrace Asatru and live by the Nine Noble Virtues and strive toward the Six Fold Goal, extremism and intolerance are simply not permitted. And the same is true for christianity.
I will admit that I have met christians who are a little scary in their condemnations of others. These aren't even christians, in my opinion. Jesus said the greatest law of all was love. How can they be christians if they worship hate and division in the name of god? Wasn't Jesus just god in human guise in their religion?
I actually get along great with christians. One of my best friends is a very devout christian and we've never had an issue. We discuss our faiths all the time without condemnation, ridicule or other such rude, hateful behavior. To me, she is the perfect example of a 'real' christian because she is displaying christ-like behavior by having respect for me and my faith.
I suspect if you were to track down one of these hateful beings that discard the admonitions to treat others as you would like to be treated and to respect others, they would tell you it was because they have 'faith'. Well, I have faith as well. But I'm certainly never rude about it as faith can never be an excuse for rudeness. If someone is using their 'faith' as an excuse for reprehensible behavior, keep in mind that is not faith, it is bigotry. And more importantly, it is just plain wrong.

I don't think every other religion is totally ridiculous. There's usually at least a little truth in all of them, but it's been twisted and changed from the original truth. They've added some ideas or change existing ones. So, I need to try to correct their thinking by explaining the problems with other views and showing how Christianity solves them.

It's simple brainwashing and indoctrination (often since their day of birth) I know. I was one of them. And the realization of how false their religion is was a very painful experience for me.
Losing my faith was like entering another dimension, as I had never before imagined a world without a god. You'll find that most of them feel this way, as well.
Unfortunately, this is a very dangerous mentality to instill in people. It is irrational, fanatical, and unhealthy. And for anyone that is not a part of their cult, it is flat-out frightening.

That's A Loaded Question if i ever heard one... Here's a Question For you !!!! "Why Do you Feel The Need To Lump All Christians into your tiny, warped, very misguided judgments???"
I Agree with what the guy said earlier..maybe you should get out more...you know meet new people..then "maybe" then... you will grow tired of making ignorant generalizations of people..
A Word To The Simple: When you "assume" you only make an ......ahh, im sure you know the rest !!!
After All who needs a word to the wise..when its the simple ones who need it most? (Like You)

That is an Excellent question. Not all Christians are the same. Every denomination has extremist. I seen them all. What we have to remember is that, no matter what doctrine we practice there is only one way to enter into the kingdom. If we don't get there you will then know without doubt you were going the wrong direction.

True Christians do not find other faiths to be garbage. The Catholic Church teaches that all faiths should be respected for the goodness and truth in their teaching.
