That's not a big difference, especially if you are cruising downhill there and treking uphill back. Could also be affected by the winds or wind direction (are you driving into the wind coming back), the time of day you are travelling (gas can dissipate faster in heat), if you are traveling with the windows down (the air drag can decrease your gas mileage), how much stuff you have in the car (are you hauling more back than there), and even your speed and if you are using cruise control (CC gives better gas mileage). -- An afterthought, are you filling up with gas before heading back. I find I get different gas mileage with different stations (different quality of gas I guess). So maybe try a different brand of station.

It is obvious that when you travel to a lower elevation and return to the higher elevation, you are not going to get the same gas mileage both ways. The difference you describe is minimal. It would also depend upon your speed and the Oil in your crankcase. Moisture in the air also has something to do with gas mileage. There are a lot of factors involved.

I think that you are doing just fine with that mileage.

Yeah it sounds like you got pretty decent milage to me.Probably is acurate. Is your air filter clean, whens the last time you changed your PCV valve? Cause that will put a hinderance on your milage also.
