I have the os but am not knowing the method to install it

I suppose you are thinking of installing Linux on a computer having windows on it, and plan to keep both the OS on the system. In that case you need an empty partition on your hard disk. Otherwise if you want to install Linux as the only OS on the system, it will remove everything else from the existing system.
The process is simple, you boot from the Linux installation cd, and follow the onscreen instruction. Then choose the empty partition to install linux on (for dual boot). Or Choose to keep linux as the only OS.

Add the following to Sanjays answer.

1> Make a swap partition (using disk druid) of minimum double the amount of ram in ur system .

2> Make a root partition '/' on the rest of the disk space.

3> For dual boot system install LILO / Grub in MBR.

the excellent version of linux is the only which installs, acknowledges all your hardware, and works out of the container. Use it for 6 months, then problem approximately looking something else that does what Ubuntu does not do for you. Dont' leap deliver ideal away - this is below magnificent!

You put the disk in the CD drive (or DVD drive) and reboot the computer. Follow the prompts after that.
