As big of a fan as I am of Ford, I'm sorry to say go with the Cummins. The 6.0L is ruining Ford just as quickly as the 7.3L made Ford. If you insist on a Ford, go with a 2002, or early build 2003 F-series equipped with the 7.3L. Those are the most trouble-free trucks from the Ford side right now. Unless, you want to wait until the release of the twin turbo 6.4L that's coming out in January of '07 as an early '08 model.

Id rather be cummin than strokin...I personally think the cummins is a better engine even though im a Ford man. Its been around for a long time and proven itself to be stout and dependable at the same time. Ford DID have a good thing w/ the 7.3 turbo, but the 6.0 is proven junk (do a search). A 2500 with a cummins 5.9 24v and a 6 speed is the way to go.

The Strokers are great motors... But will suck you pocket dry when you fill the tank. The Cummins is a straight 6. It gets better general fuel economy. Plus they have been around a lot longer. They are more tried and true tested.
I would also consider waiting another year or so when GM does away with the aluminum heads on the Duramax (Isuzu) diesel. That one has the braun of the V8, but is also going to be better on fuel than any other light truck diesel.

the cummins, as much as i dont like to say it, it is the best. and as for real diesels not having glow plugs, that is the dumbest thing i have EVER heard. All diesels have glow plugs, they are to warm the air fuel mixture before the diesel is started, that is why you have to wait before you start a diesel. But atleast you were right with the inline 6 having a mechaincal advantage over v motors. But back on track, the cummins is the better motor, and i am a hardcore ford fan.

thats easy...
any diesel that has glow plugs is not a diesel. glow plugs take the place of spark plugs in a gas engine that was converted to diesel (ford power stroke). Cummins was built as a diesel and uses a heat shield. further more the Cummins Turbo Diesel has more horsepower 355, more torque 600, and better gas mileage 20mpg, with 20% less moving parts and more reliable injectors.

You will always get more torque in an in-line engine than you will with a V pattern in the Power Stroke and Duramax

Dont get me started on the Isuzu Durasplat though...

That is going to be purely opinion. I like the power stroke the best but the cummins is also a very good motor. (power stroke with a turbo)
