My pug puppy has smelled GREAT until a couple of days ago. His ears STINK SO BAD! He's an indoor pug, only goes outdoors 2 or 3 times a day to relieve himself and go for a short walk around the apartment complex. So he doesn't get into anything dirty really. What causes a dogs ears to smell so bad? And can I fix the problem or would the vet/groomer need to be called?

Pugs ears need special attention. The hair that grows inside needs to be cut out. That could cause excess ear wax build up. The ear wax also needs removed. They see this awesome ear cleaner at vet offices. It isnt very expensive and you only have to use it once or twice a week. It smells good to. My pug had that problem under control now!!! I cant remember what the solution is called but just ask the vet!

It could be what he's eating. Check out what is in the food you're feeding him, and make sure he's not getting scraps under the table or getting into the garbage.
My lab has an allergy to a lot of the "grain" in foods. Pet food sometimes has bread or bread like materials put into the kibble to give it substance. Even though a lot of what's in the food isn't good for your dog. The stinky ears may be a sign of an allergic reaction.
If you want to get to the bottom of this, talk to your vet. They have all the knowledge that you would need to find out what's happening with you're poor pup. They're your best friend when it comes to wanting to keep your pup healthy. Most vets look at their patients and react as if it were theire pet. And a phone call is a small price to pay for the health of your new pup.
So, check the food, talk to the vet. Good luck, hope this helps.

Dogs ears can get smelly (like dirty feet smell) if they have an ear infection. I would go to a pet store and ask for something to clean his ears with. They should be able to tell you how to do this. If the problem persists, take him in to the vet.

There is probably a lot of hair in the ears, trapping dirt, debris, moisture and heat. This makes perfect breeding grounds for yeast. Maintaining your dogs ears will prevent future ear problems. In the meantime, you should see a vet for medication (sometimes both orally and topical), get some good ear cleaner, the kind that help dry out the ears safely, and get him on the right tract to being healthy again.

it could be a couple of things... maybe his ears just need to be cleaned out (like us, if we didn't clean our ears on a regular basis there would more than likely be an odor from the earwax trapping debris, moisture, etc) or he has an infection. Dirt, moisture, etc can get trapped in there causing it to smell but doesn't necessarily mean that it is infected. To be sure, take him to the vet... they can take a look to determine if there is an infection or not and clean if necessary and prescibe antibiotics if needed.

He probably has an ear infection, so you need to get him to the vet. What kind of food is he eating? Food with lots of corn and byproducts (which are only used for fillers since dogs can't digest them) can cause a lot of problems with skin and ears. You may want to look into high quality foods (NOTE: high-quality foods are not found in grocery stores, so you'll probably have to search online for a retailer near you) such as Canidae, California Natural, Wellness, Evo, etc...

Good luck!

Most likely ear infection.
You should see the vet and find out just to be sure.
Get some meds to treat it, you may have to clean out his ears or dry them out on a regular basis. Some dogs get yeast infection in their ears and you can put drops in to help keep the ear cannal dry so it does not get infected again.

He has an infection. This can be caused from bathing him and not getting the underside of the ear properly dry. See a vet and make sure you get directions on proper ear care while you are there.

It could be an ear infection. If so get it treated. To prevent future infections, when your puppy sleeps make sure is ears are flopped up to let them get some air.
