We've been thinking about getting a second cat, and are wondering what to do. Echo, my 3 year old Siamese cat- girl- I think would get along with any cat, but in the past I've had a boy and girl at the same time. I'm thinking a boy cat may be less threatening to Echo's "space" then another girl cat. What are your thoughts, and what have you experienced in the past?

Personally I do think it matters. Female society is matriarchal and two female cats who are strangers will have the most difficulty adjusting to one another. A male cat is less threatening. A cat who has had the territory to herself for three years would be better off with a neutered male kitten eight months to a year old.

Male cat would be better or perhaps if you bring in a baby female kitten she won't be intimidated by her.

I started out with a male kitten and after 1 year got a 7 month old female and they got along great. Several years later when I brought in another 2 year female. Tabitha didn't like that one bit....and the next few years they lived together they rarely got along. Tabitha would pick on Libby off and on. It was so sad because they were both a small size and similar personality it would have been so sweet to see them become friends but it never happened. When we got Libby [the 2nd female] we found out she was 6 weeks pregnant. She ended up having 2 girls and Tabitha never did have a problem with them............so maybe if you get a baby female kitten your first girl would be just fine.
Girls can be so temperamental.... : )

I don't think it will matter as long as it is a kitten. Cats will be territorial but not as bad with a kitten. I have a male cat and brought another male kitten into the picture. The older cat accepted the kitten like his own. We brought a female kitten into the fold later and was accepted.

Cats are matriarchal. There can only be one queen. We have NEVER had luck with bring in in a new female with an older female. They will fight. It's easier to bring two females together as kittens. I would go with a male, and get him fixed. He will still be in her "space" but he will just be more of an annoyance than a threat.

It doesn't matter one way or another.

But, you need to have your new cat vet checked prior to bringing it home. Not only to insure it is healthy, but also parasite free and FeLV/FIV negative. Also, the introduction into your home needs to be slow. The new cat will need to remain 'locked up' for a time so the old cat can get familiar with its smell. Good luck. Also, read the following:

In my trustworthy opinion, if the boy is not allowed on the daycare which he should not be then it extremely is not one of the different parent's corporation what occurred see you later as their babies weren't in touch. i'm specific the social workers besides as daycare team would be making specific that not one of the different babies have been in touch. of course there is a few thing happening there & the little boy is in all probability approximately to submit to an extremely rigidity era in his existence & he would not deserve for all of it to be broadcasted. there's no ought to alarm different mothers and dads till he remains on the daycare. stable success. On a component observe: the folk engaged on the daycare are watching 15 to twenty youthful babies at a time so that's confusing to reveal screen what each and every physique is doing at each 2d of the day. They filed a police checklist whilst they caught him in the act so that's not effortless to declare they at the instant are not doing there interest.

i think a girl cat is a great idea because she will have a life time sister to be friends with to take care of and other great things but having a male cat you will never know if she as in your beatyful cat might have wanted a sister.
