By fixing your dog you will make his risk of prostate cancer disappear. He will be a better pet. More focused on you and less worried about finding a female to breed with. They are more content to stay home and do not roam looking for love. They are less aggerssive as they are not going to fight for breeding rights.
It makes no difference in your pets mental well being.
As far a Huskies likeing to run thye do love to run. I know people who can let theirs off lead and the dog is fine. Most are not. Most are escape artists and will go over under or through anything to get loose to run. I have owned one in the past. Great dog. But he loved to escape.

Fixing him wont ruin him. What it will do is stop your dog from wandering off to find that femle in heat.(it happened to me once with a gsd) ,it could help to prevent unwanted cancers in your dog , it will help to curb any aggression problems , and marking his territory. He will be a better all round house pet.He will actually be happier nuetered because he wont have that urge to want to always find that female. Like I said it happened to me .Our GSD was missing for a week ,he found that female in heat ,and we never thought we would see him again. Your dog will always have that urge.If he's not fixed one day he may run away , and like the other poster said get hit by a car. You should tie him up , or have a fence ,or he should be on a leash ,not out alone.Something could happen.Seriuosly get him fixed .he will be a much happier dog.

Hmmm...where to begin.

1. Dog's aren't insecure human men. They don't care about their testicles. The idea that he won't be "happy" without them is ridiculous.

2. I've done Siberian Husky rescue for 20 years. You wouldn't believe the number of dogs that have come through my doors because everyone just wanted to breed Sasha/Kody/Nanook/Demon/Bandit "once". Please don't add to the problem.

3. Again, after 20 years in the breed, YES. I do believe they'll take off, because I've spent enough time chasing them down, and getting calls from people whose Siberians escaped/took off and they thought they may have ended up in my rescue as a stray. I've also seen them killed on the side of the road, punctured and bruised from fights with other dogs, loaded with parasites because they were eating roadkill, and shot by ranchers for chasing livestock.

There are some Siberians who don't wander. I've had 2 in the past two decades, out of probably 50 dogs in my kennel. TWO. Both, BTW were spayed and neutered.

So you got lucky over the weekend. Good for you. Dear God am I glad you didn't buy a puppy from me.

Do your dog a favor. Neuter him, and please don't let him wander. Both of these things will lengthen his life considerably.

First, it does not ruin a dog!! Next, yes, I totally believe a husky should never be off a leash OR not in a fenced area. Read the following, you may get a better understanding on breeding and myths about altering.

No, it's not ruining him. It's better for him and everyone else in the long run. Why breed him? There are so many unwanted dogs and cats out there.
And you really should think twice about letting him loose. He might not run away, but he could get hit by a car.

Why even breed him once? There are dogs, even purebred Huskies, dying in shelters everyday. If you'd like another one, search petfinder.com.

Neutering your dog will help prevent him from getting cancer (testicular, etc) later in life. So the earlier you get this done, the better. Neutering also helps decrease aggression that can develop later in life and wandering which can happen if there is a nearby female who is in heat.

That's not true. They can be just as happy having been neutered as opposed to staying intact.

And having him fixed will also eliminate the risk of him developing prostate cancer (yep, it happens in dogs, too). In the long run, it is really better for your dog's health.

And since you mention letting your dog out around the neighborhood, having him neutered will also keep him from "roaming".

it wont ruin him. and why breed? why not save a dog that is in need already??
but fixing him will TOTALLY help. it will greatly reduce his risk of certain cancers and it will keep him from wanting to go out and find a mate. if there is a dog in heat in the area, he will know and he will want to find it. you lucked out that he stayed in the yard when you left him, but do you want him getting lose and getting into the street? its going going to ruin him, it might just save his life.

I just got mine fixed last month and everyone told me that he would get fat and lose all his energy and be unhappy but its just healthier and safer to get it done. He s still the same dog with the same energy, he doesnt run away form home either. Hes a healthy happy dog and hes muh baby lol!

'Fixing' your dog will have neither a psychological nor physical affect on your dog. Your dog's temperament will depend on your influences. How you treat your dog will ultimately decide your dog's temperament.
