If so, how much?

One is never obligated to proffer a tip for services above and beyond. one tips another when the service was beyond expectations or unusually exceptional. Taxi drivers earn tips for cleanliness, courtesy, good driving, and general good manners, and the tip is generally 10-15% of the fare.

In an eating establish ment, the tip begins at 15%, and can proceed upward. On the other hand, a tip can decrease from 15%, too, or a tip can be omitted altogether. If you find that a tip is out of the question, it is customary to communicate your dissatisfaction to the manager of the establishment.

Yes you should tip a taxi driver. You tip anyone who provides you with a service the word tips stand for "TO INSURE PROPER SERVICE" so if the taxi driver gets you from point A to point B safely and without an accident I think he has provided you the service you expected. As someone else has said taxi drivers do not get paid very well they depend on the tips to make ends meet. I know this because my dad was a taxi driver for a while before he died.

A Taxi Driver is usually working basically for their tips in the USA, that is. The fare goes to the company, although they may get a small portion of that. Like a Waitress or Bartender depend on their tips also. I always tip all of the above. Most consider you a cheap jerk if you don't. I am for the working people. Hugs.

I feel you should since he took the time to take you where you had to go and helped you with your belongings and such. But do not over do it cause sometimes the taxi drivers can be SO rude and have an attitude at times. I usually do not tip much reason being they are a pain in the *** when they take me home sometimes.

before you decide on how much to give him, take the following into consideration:
driving is his job, his life
He probably doesnt even make half the money you do in a month
Try to picture life without taxi drivers,... how would you transport yourself? buy your own car? Walk?

Sometimes we need to recognise and be thankful of the things that we have, so let your heart decide on how much you want to give him.
Next time you get into a taxi, smile and try to have a decent conversation with the driver, he is, after all, controlling the vehicle!

It isn't necessary, but it is customary. Most people tip between 15 and 20% depending on the service.

Yes, you should-- 15% of the total fare, unless he helped you with your bags, etc. Then 20% is appropriate.
