The blood type test takes only a few minutes. Other tests for infections, etc. take longer. In reality, if he needs the blood NOW, they will give him whatever is in the blood bank, and use yours to replace it. Don't let that stop you from donating, however. Blood banks are always very low on blood. The local banks seldom have more than a day or 2 worth of blood, and sometimes the supply is measured in hours. If you are healthy, please consider becoming a regular blood donor. It's almost painless, it usually takes 60-90 minutes from start to end, and you'll potentially save lives.

Depends on the situation, If he goes to a hospital, usually they have Stocks of blood and wont need to use yours unless his is very rare, like an O-. If it is, then that is a genetic blood type and then would have to use someone related, If its an emergency, they would test right away to see if you are a match.

Your blood would go into a blood bank. It would be typed and tested for diseases. When given to a patient, it would be crossmatched carefully.
