It seems more believable to me that Jesus was simply a charismatic leader whose stories were continually exaggerated until the point of seeming god-like. Eventually, out of these stories grew an entire mythology to give people a way to explain the unexplainable and to try to control the masses. Doesn't this seem like a more likely explanation then the son of god was on earth and then disappeared along with any evidence of the existence of god?

I'm inclined to agree. The tales about him were only written down decades after the fact...no one had a travelling diary, and Jeus himself didn't write a thing. Only tradition maintains that John, Matthew, and Luke were actually written by their namesakes, but there is no real evidence of it. Nor is there any evidence of any of the wonders that Jesus supposedly did outside the Bible.

Persoanlly I think that he was a charismatic who got made into a godhead after the fact.

Jesus brought back the dead with a touch of his hand -- AND he said we can all do this.

Ever see a Boy Scout perform CPR on someone who has just had a heart attack and is no longer breathing and has no heart beat.

That's a touch to the body and in some instances it restores life.

Jesus and the Bible documented this 2000 years ago.

Believe what you want.

Jesus said we all have the power.

God leveled Sodom and Gommarah and Lot's wife, who went back, got turned to a pilar of salt.

Ever seen what happened to people in Hiroshima after Man used the A Bomb.

Genesis paralells the Big Bang Theory, which, by the way, was postuated by a Catholic Priest who holds a degree in Physics.

That's 6,000 years before science said it.

Dear spookshowbaby, I would like to help make sense of the Jesus issue. I would first like to ask you a question, Do you consider yourself to be a good person? If there is a God and Judgement day, would you be good enough to go to heaven? Lets look at Goids standard (Ten Commandments) to see how you will do.

Have you ever told a lie? even a white lie? this is a violation of the 9th commandmnet, "thou shalt not bear false wittness"

Have you ever used Gods name to curse For example (G-D)? thats called blasphemy, and the Bible says " God wil not hold them guiltless that use his name in vain".

Have you ever looked with lust? ever looked at someone and had innapropraite sexual thoughts? The BIble calls this adultry.

Have you ever stolen something? the BIble says no thief will enherit the Kingodm of God.

Be Honest, If God were to Judge you by this standard on the day of Judgement, would you be innocent or guilty? the BIble says you would be guilty. God is like a Judge, if a judge turned a blind eye to those who broke the Law, he would be a corrupt Judge, God will make sure those who have broken His Law (ten Commandments) are brought to Justice. the penalty for your sin is death and Hell. But while this is true, this is where Jesus comes into the picture. the BIble says God sent his only Son Jesus to come and suffer and die on the cross paying the penalty for your sins. you broke the Law, but Jesus paid your fine. He stepped in and interveined for you. So heres the issue, If Jesus is who he is desribed as in the BIble there is Hope for you. The BIBle says if you will repent and put your full faith and trust in Him to save you, God can and will forgive you and grant you the gift of everlasting life. But if Jesus was simply a man who had high claims but was simply a poor Jewish man, your in Huge trouble on judgement day. if this is true then you will remain in your sins with no hope unitl the day of Judgement. But God has given us His assurabce that Jesus is who he said he is, and that if you will trust him and repent and forsake your sins, he will reveal himself to you, and grant you the gift of eternal life. you wont just belive in god but you will know him personally, you move fro the realm of belife inot the realm of experience. Please there is nothing more important than your eternal salvation, repent and trust Jesus today.

God Bless

Of course. He had to be a natural man. For the Bible to be true (street magic, "virgin" births, God speaking audibly from the heavens), it would negate everything that we know about this world, and would suggest that God is wishy-washy. I do think Jesus believed the whole "Messiah" story, himself. He seems to have been genuine and good, from everything I've read. Isn't it beautiful that God created Natural Law, which gives us consistency and the ability to predict our actions? It is only the *truly* moral who listen to their inner voice instead of indoctrination. The inner voice doesn't ask for donations, either. :-)

"william r": Where, exactly is the book of "Geniuses"? I didn't know Mensa existed in Bible times.

I like Scott M's pragmatic answer. Makes good sense.

Logically it makes more sense that he never existed. But it also depends on what you read and what you are trying to prove. The fact is that for 2000 years, people have believed that He was the Son of God, a God himself. I don't think your logic today can change that. So we can speculate all we want, but what it comes down to is whether you have had any experiences with the Living Christ. If so, it is more logical to assume that these religious experiences were real and that He is who He said He is.
Everything else is just faith, faith in your logic, or faith in the Bible.

Jesus was the only prophet to say He was the Son of God. And He suffered greatly, was nailed to a cross, died for 3 days and rose from the dead. There were hundreds of witnesses to His death and dozens to His resurrection. Only the Son of God would be able to die for 3 days and rise. Jesus is God, He has the power to do this. There has been no other prophet that ever claimed to be God or tobe the Son of God. So, logically, He is the Son of God.

I agree with you. I believe Jesus was a prophet. The rest of it has grown up as time passed into a 'myth'. Myth doesn't quite cover it but I can't think of an appropriate word.

He was surely a charismatic leader, a mystic teacher or guru but whose teachings, parables where misunderstood even by his disciples. For eg, that little girl, dead on the bed whom christians believe that Jesus gave her life should not be taken in the physical sense but metaphorical. Those who baptised are called born again, so one whom Jesus taught and joined his movement is surely "back to life". Many places in the bible people read it directly and misinterpret the whole teachings.

It is this misinterpretation which has created the world's greatest religion... and we call ourself "modern" and intelligent...

Well, that's probably because your understanding of the Bible and other religions is limited. You need to take some college level classes in Religious Studies and Philosophy then maybe you can understand what makes Christians believe.

If Jesus wasn`t the Son of God then He was evil or mad because that is who He claimed to be. Merely a good leader is not an option.
