Catholicism and Islam are both religion. The latter is an upgrade of the former. The reason why catholics convert to Islam is this:
1. The superficiality of the teachings of the catholics
2. The catholic church was being deceitful and this was disturbing
3. Idolatry is ramphant
4. False Doctrine and teaching
5. Infallability of the pope
6. Immorality is condon in some other ways
These are but some of the reason why catholics is moving from one religion to another (most particularly islam). they believed that works make the difference. Rituals of the Jews are being exercised without knowing why it is being done.
For further information a catholic missionary was also convert to islam and here is the address so you may read it for yourself.

I don't really understand why some people seek the truth on the wrong directions. Some are running on the right directions but nevertheless sidetrack and loose their way.

Many were not really educated properly in the first place, were Catholic by name only and were searching for something.
The Catholic Church (or any other) has not always done the best job of keeping kids interested after they get over 21 years old.
Many of these people leave for the party life for a period of years and fall away from the faith.
Most come back and some move on, on the surface there are things about Islam that are attractive, the devotion to prayer, moderate dress, ect. If they don't take the time to really understand the laws and basis of Islam, they can be taken in.
75% of those that do move to Islam leave within 5 years, at least in America they are still free to leave.
Muslims are less likely to convert because it is illegal in Muslim Countries, and it is also illegal for Christians to preach openly in most Muslim countries.
This is where the hatred of the west is coming from, Muslim fundamentalists do not want the people to be free to worship as they chose or they will lose power.
In my humble opinion!
Peace!

Islam is harder on Homosexuals than are Catholics (they get found dead in Iraqi all the time)
Islam bows and knees more times a day
You get to marry multiple wives in most tribes and even teenage girls
You have to go around looking like the Pope all day long.
These are true, yet fascious answers.
Islamics, true ones, have to wear robes. Harems are allowed. They go to the Mosque and bow 5 times a day.
Oh, there's no wine drinking allowed and no pork eating, so ham is out for Easter (as is Easter has a holiday).
You still get to keep Jesus and God.
Oh, you also can't eat in daytime for a month each year.
These are the legimated differences.
They are all documented.
They are all factual.

Because they believe that Allah has something better for them than confessing their sins to a priest. Because they have studied Islam and realize that it is the truth, that the Koran has not been changed since it was given to the Prophet Muhammed(pbuh)
Or maybe they realize that Islam is the only religion that can be supported by science. That it doesn't ask you to accept on blind faith but that you can study it and prove to yourself that it had to come from Allah because there is no other way that these things could have been known.

Simply put: God is one God and Muhammad is his prophet.
What prophet does a Catholic follow? Jesus. And the Pope is Jesus represented on Earth.
However, there are those who differ. You can see this with the Greek Orthodox and Protestant churches.
However, there are those that belief that Jesus was not the last prophet. They believe in another prophet and his name is Muhammad.
Please note the word "believe". It is belief that makes a person move from one place to another, for example, from Catholic to Muslim. To convert to Islam requires two things: Belief in one God and belief that Muhammad is his prophet.

Why DID I CONVERTED? Yes I am qualified to answer since I am an actual convert and ex-catholic.....
I converted because Islam teaches:
1-No original sin (meaning you do not get to pay for what someone else did)
2- YOU ONLY PRAY TO GOD--- no saints , no pictures, etc
3- YOU Talk directly to God about your sins
4- Islam says we all should get married (it understands human nature)
5- Islam is a complete way of life
Should I go on?

Here is a link to a former Catholic priest who is now a Muslim preacher, Yusuf Estes.
http://www.islamtomorrow.com/Yusuf_story.htm
Makes interesting reading.
I can only say from my own point of view why i am no longer a Catholic and it is mainly down to doctrine which i could never back up using the bible.

In my personal opinion, there are two things which all of the converts say when asked about why they became Muslim, especially former chrisitians.
1. One Perfect God, incomparable to creation, The Creator!
2. Each individual has access to God, no need of a priest or a monk to make a confession etc.
Worship the Creator, not the creation!

God loves us so much that He gave His only begotton Son to die for us that whosoever believes in Him shall have eternal life.
When a person understands the love of God in the true religion that is when they convert to it.
