Manda Panda is correct! To add: in most Petsmarts you'll find a Banfield Vet center, and THEY sell Frontline. In the same building and all - just have to get it from the people at the Banfield counter. That's what I recommend, and I work at Petsmart as well. Good luck!

No!!! I am a cheapskate and tried the otc flea meds. They DO NOT WORK like the veterinarian stuff. It was a waste of money for me.
That being said, use Frontline Plus, not the regular Frontline (top shot?) If you just need it for flea meds than each vial lasts up to 3 months compared to other flea meds. I reapply every 3 months, not 1, so Frontline Plus is a better bargain than Advantage or the regular Frontline. A 3 pack of FP will last 9 months. However if you need the tick protection (I don't) than that's only good for 1 month and you'd have to reapply the Plus monthly.
I've used both Advantage and Frontline Plus and FP works better. It last longer because while Advantage is absorbed on top of the skin, FP is absorbed underneath the skin so it is more resistant to baths and water. It really does last! You can buy Frontline Plus online too and it usually is cheaper than at the vets. That being said some people like Advantage because of how it kills the fleas on contact rather than how FP does it, but really after the first treatment or so, it's all about maintaining no fleas imo.

What ever you do, do NOT use Hartz, Cutter, or any other brand to treat fleas and ticks. Frontline, Advantix, Advantage, Revolution, and Senitinel are all good...actually great. Frontline works the best however. You can get Frontline at your local pet store, but do NOT get it online. They are stolen or obtained in illegal ways and the Frontline company doesn't back up any product that wasn't purchased through a vet or pet supply store. The brands I told you to not use can cause serious health problems with your cat...or dog. They usually cause seizure, hypothermia, liver and kidney damage, and death. I have seen this countless times so far since becoming a vet tech and can't tell you how painful it is to watch these guys suffer from these horrible products. Frontline is so safe to use that you could apply it everyday and your dog could eat it and there would be no problems. I wouldn't advice it, but they have done studies on this. Goodluck and always stick to the options I gave you.

Absolutely not. They don't work and can actually cause harm.
Good news though, Frontline can be obtained at Petsmart and other places. Just ask the staff.
If you have several dogs you can try this to save money.
I purchase the HUGE dog dose for my several dogs. Then I put the Frontline in a syringe and measure out the proper dosage to each dog. It is way cheaper than buying an individual dose for each dog. The problem is that if you order from the vet they will only sell you the dose based on your dog's weight. SO I buy mine from petshed.com along with heartworm prevention. It gets shipped in from Australia where they don't require a prescription.

You want to know what works even better than both of those and is safer for your pet? Take a piece of cloth and fold it over and sew it on the one side and then at one end , stick a funnel in the open end and fill with 50% rosemary and 50% oregano and then close up that end and put it around your animals neck using velcro. Fleas also hate lavender so sprinkle lavender oil in the bedding area and around the house You can also crush up some sage into a powder and then rub it on your pet and allow it to remain for 20 minutes then brush it off. You can also feed your pet garlic pills which the fleas really hate and so do worms I have noticed. If you read the small print on those flea killers they are poisonous and even recomend you use gloves when applying it to your pet. That should tell you something about what it is probably doing to your pet.

The answer is no. The pesticides in the ones you buy at the vet have been specifically tested as to how they affect your pets system. They are usually much more expensive because of the testing. The ones you find at pet stores contain pesticides that have not been approved for safe application on animals which is why the veterinarian does not put her/his approval on them.
Frontline specifically does not enter into your dogs system. It hangs out in the oils at the base of the fur to do it's job. This one has been known to be the safest.
Keep in mind that the active ingredient in all flea and tick 'medications' is a pesticide. So, use with caution and only when needed.

You can get front line at TSC stores and other non-chain pet stores, and most other farm supply stores. Its really expensive about 40 bucks for a medium size dog. But you dont have to get it exclusively at a vet. Thats just what they tell you so they can charge you for a check up and visit.
Zodiac (from petsmart) flea treatments work pretty well if you dont have a flea problem yet, if you do, its still the best 'over the counter' product ive found. Always use the drops and the collar, and buy the spray for the pets bed. Vacuume daily.
NEVER USE HARTS FLEA PRODUCTS.

nope, they claim it does but it does not contain all of the correct medicines to help prevent fleas and ticks... and often times contains harmful medicines that can make your dog/cat sick. I would recommend getting it from your vet (not 1-800-PETMEDS either, they claim it is all the right ingredients but they do the same thing as pet stores or off brand companies!!!) We recieved a fax about a year ago stating to tell all of our customers not to order from anywhere but your vet because of that!!!
Frontline may cost a little more but it is well worth it. if you buy some off brand, you will probably end up paying more in medical bills than that!!!
For your dog/cats sake, use Frontline, Andvantage/Advantix or Revolution from your vet and protect them the safe way!!!

I use Bio-Spot and have for about the last 10 years.
It is cheaper then Frontline and I get it through my pet supply catalog. It works very well.
The key is that all of these are preventatives. And you need to put the product on every month and start befroe the flea season and stop when the fea season it over in your area.
If you treat like that you won't have fleas.
