We don't start cooking until it gets dark when it gets dark earlier. That means more outside time. We also don't pull out the blocks and little building and learning toys until after dark. We read and we all cook together. That in itself is a chore with 2 two year old children.

Sometimes we sing songs that they like while I am cooking and they do the hand motions to them. Good luck I know it is hard.

Try doing crafts indoors. Neither of my children had a problem with coming in earlier than normal. They are 8 and 6 now but even at a younger age they understood and we didn't have problems. Heck, by 5 here we are about to sit down for dinner, then baths, play time, and bed so if you do it just right, they won't even notice that they can't be outside anymore.

try some new games, with flashlights. like flashlight tag...
catch lightning bugs.
you can always get outdoor lights too.

or save inside play for after dark. let them get all of their running around out before 5. then do board games, crafts, have a movie time after 5

I think it's easier with small children. They tend to go to bed on time or earlier! I keep my main room bright to give the illusion of daylight.

Try paying attention to your children and doing activities with them

I know what you mean. You just have to find little things to do with them that in the house since you cant really go out all that much.
Things like crafts or helping mama do things, depending what age they are.

I know what you mean....but if you play outside with them it is safe. If you can't...coloring books, games, dinner.....maybe a treasure hunt so everyone can play...be creative...enjoy your children.
