A church that is in true allignment with the word will use the money to go outside the four walls of the church to help those in need, whether it be in the inner city, foreign mission, helping the homeless, or feeding the hungry. These are churches that usually see the highest attendance because the people know that what they give is actually going to a good cause and not just fattening the preacher's wallet.
This is why we are commanded to tithe - to help others, not just pay the minister and keep the money strictly for supplies and church dinners for the 23 crusty old members

When you go to a church, do you want to sit in the dark....wait, I guess you would have to sit on the ground because there would be no building to light or to heat or cool. It takes money to have these things. Where do you think this money would come from?
Now I do believe it is wrong for any church to use the money given to have things so fancy that it take money away from those in need. I would rather have a modest building then a cathedral with the money saved for this to be used to reach more for the LORD
Jesus did not tell us that it was wrong to expect the widow to give the "widow's mite" because HE knows blessings come from giving.
There is a song that tells us...Thank you for giving to the LORD, I was a life that was changed but we need to be wise stewards of the money we either give...or that a church gets. In giving, we need to give only to those ministries that are using it wisely. In receiving, we need to make sure we use it for the Glory of God
Most important, before we give a dime, GOD wants US first. He wants us to give our SIN to HIM and to trust Jesus for full payment for all our sin. Read the link below

It is doing what God tells us to do.
Nehemiah 10:38 And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.
Numbers 18:26 Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe.
You are only giving back to the church one tenth of what God has given you in life. None of what we have was obtained on our own. God gave us all of what we have. With out Him and those blessings, we all would have nothing. So 10% of what we have goes back to the house of God which is the Chruch we attend.

God Loves a cheerful giver
2 Corinthians 9:6-7
6Â But as to this, he that sows sparingly will also reap sparingly; and he that sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7Â Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
How is all this work supported? By voluntary donations. These are made, not for publicity or out of selfish motive, but to advance true worship. Hence, such giving brings happiness to the giver, along with God’s blessing. (Malachi 3:10; Matthew 6:1-4)
Truly, Gods heart rejoices to see both young and old put his Kingdom interests first by ‘honoring him with their valuable things.’ (Proverbs 3:9, 10) Of course, no one can actually enrich God, for he owns all things. (1Â Chronicles 29:14-17) But supporting the work is a privilege that affords the worshiper opportunity to display his love for God.

God does protect the church but churches still need money to do things like, craft supplies for Sunday school, food for holiday events and to fix the church up too.

Churches capitalise on people's guilt in order to extract money from them. God is everywhere: God does not require that you pay Him money. Replace dolling out money to a church, synagogue or mosque in favour of acting like a responsible, good person. After all, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

The way a person uses and invests his time, talent, and treasure reveals a lot about him. An offering to God given out of a joyous and grateful heart, with no strings attached, pleases God immensely. A church that has a history of being wise and shrewd with the resources entrusted to them usually is a good sign of healthy spirituality.

Churches don't ask for money. As a christian, it is our requirement to give the best 10% of our earnings to God as a Tithe. It's in the Bible.
The best 10% was defined as the healthiest strongest live stock etc. God required the best from his people because he gives them abundance.

"And he always needs MONEY!
"Created the universe in six days, but (*head clap*) can't handle money!"
--George Carlin
Churches do have real world expenses...and God hasn't started a trust fund for them or anything. Funny how much support God gives his churches...exactly as much as a being that isn't there.
Though a certain someone's "faith-based initiatives" have been clouding the issue...

Giving offering is an exercise of trust of the individual giving offering.
Trusting that God will provide for you.
Focus not on the church but on your relationship with God.
