If you go to a Hoyty Toyty restaurant. What is supposed to happen; is the couple discuss what they want to drink. Then when the waiter comes over, the man gives the drink order. The same is true for the food order. This comes from a time when it was seen as chivalrous for the man to do everything for the woman when dining. Today when they are dining, the man should ask beforehand if she would rather order for herself, so there's no misunderstanding.

I'd order for myself no matter what. It's one thing if you're in a relationship with that person, and he knows what you like to drink, and orders it for you. That's sweet. But if it's a first date, and he tries to order for me, it seems controlling, and I'd tell the waiter, "well actually, I'll have a water, thanks."

Ordering for a girl early on is a no-no. The woman is perfectly capable if making up her mind on what she wants to eat or drink. Let her do so.

srry dude, i m a guy, but i can tell u, the first option is the better one, but only if u turn out to be a confident guy who knows stuff. However, u really need to be sure coz if u pick something wrong then u score less. Its like a sports manager, if he chooses a stratergy and it works he was brilliant but if doesnt he was poor. This is in case ur fine dining, and drinking some wine or champagne

He should be a gentleman and say i'll let the lady choose, at least that's why they are on a date.

Why would I let someone else decide what I'm having? The only time I believe it's remotely appropriate to select something for someone else at a restaurant is when you've been there quite often and you want the other person to try a specialty and you know their tastes AND get their permission!

I like to have my say to be honest. I don't mind if we've decided between red and white and he then chooses the bottle, but I wouldn't want him to choose my drink outright. No way - next thing he'll be choosing what clothes you wear!
