We were asked earlier what our causes are - everyone has them. There were plenty of answers about peace, hunger and such.
So I ask, what are you doing to support your cause?
My causes are AIDS awareness and poverty in Africa. I give money to both causes, sign petitions and talk about them every chance I get.

Faith - What a wonderful thing. It reminds me that there are so many of us who give to those around us without thinking.
Have you ever given away a piece of furniture, or clothing to a neighbor - that kind of giving is so important.

Giving is good for the giver, true.
But it can be far more important to those you give too.
For example I gather school supplies for a nearby school that is really struggling. Sure that makes me feel good. But it also lets the kids know that the community cares. And it means supplies they wouldn’t have otherwise to help with their education. It’s good for everybody involved when we give.
I prefer to give to local groups so the donations are used directly by those that need it right here. This includes various activities to help the kids and food drives, giving to the local prison ministry.
But even if you can’t give financially you can always give a little time to those who are alone or sick. You can always give a smile or a kind word to someone having a rough day.

To those that say that giving does more for the giver: What else would you suggest we do? What else can we possibly do? Sure, it feels good, but in many ways it feels good because we know we can't do much else and at least we've tried. Not trying is very close to not caring.

Most charitable endeavors do more for the giver than the receiver. It's a means of feeling good about yourself, and in that sense it is selfish. However, I always give hobos money when they ask for it.

I only support things here at home. I will worry about other countrys, only when mine is in good shape. Start at home. Your area. Your Block, your town.

I support missionaries in Africa. I believe in evangelism. I also believe we need to work on our schools.
