McDonalds has millions, maybe billions and can afford these giveaways. As long as these games exist , McDonalds continues to make millions. Each person who picks up their purchases at Mc Doanld's just a small amount basically creates the prize money. For just a few dollars more a person who is now buying more or just buying, McDoanlds is making more than enough money to supplment the prize money. This is the idea of the game.

I have only won free food.
But to answer your question of how do they afford the prizes, they are a multi-billion dollar corporation. The amount of exposure, and increased money from the upswing in business caused by more people playing is what makes it very affordable. A few million in prize money is a drop in the bucket compared to the new long-term customers that they gain by doing the Monopoly game.

McDonalds is a Billion dollar corparation! So i think they could afford a couple million dollar prizes. I'm sure they only have one winner on the bigger prizes. And I'm sure that they make alot of money from people buying the food just to recieve the game pieces. So maybe McDonalds isnt even losing money on it maybe there making money. Just think how many McDonalds there are in the world, and I'm sure everyones playing to win!
