Hydrogen atom has the atomic mass of 1, and therefore it is the first atom to be listed in the Periodic Table. In the Periodic Table, although it is arranged in the same column with Lithium, Sodium, Potassium etc (Group 1: Alkali Metals), it does not show similar chemical characteristics with the Group 1 metals. Therefore, Hydrogen is not a Group 1 atom.

It is 1.
This is the basis for which all other atomic masses are measured....i.e. they call Hydrogen 1 and then everything else is relative to that.
