Corrupt... In their dealings with citizens, and their civil rights. Incompetent, when it comes to upholding the law themselves.

I think the hands of the police are tied. I suspect some of the largest corporations in America are involved in the illegal drug trade. That's the only explination which fully accounts for the overall volume of drugs.

Think about the amount of illegal drugs in this country at this very moment. A person in even the smallest town can easily find just about any illegal drug. Now think about how many towns there are like that in this country and it becomes very clear that we're talking about massive amounts of illegal drugs, with that constantly resupplied as the existing drugs are consumed.

There is no way all those drugs are entering the country hidden away in small compartments of vehicles crossing some border, or under the clothing of some person flying in. It would take many thousands of those each day to even come close to meeting the demand.

Instead, I suspect someone is using cargo ships to move the illegal drugs - cargo containers filled with boxes normally used for everyday consumer items but now filled with drugs. Once the cargo containers are in the country, everyday commercial trucks move those boxes to regional distribution points.

Now, if you or I suddenly started receiving huge shipments, cargo container-sized shipments, from overseas, with trucks running around to move those shipments, I think someone might notice.

However, nobody would notice if a corporation simply added a few extra cargo containers to their normal shipments from overseas (from asia and so on - the very places many illegal drugs come from).

But, even of someone did notice, who is going to take on a huge corporation? These companies have the money to buy police departments, courts, and politicians. By the way, these companies also have an easy way to hide the massive drug profits, in their own normal business profits.

Of course, I don't have any real evidence of this. However, when I look at the situation, this is the only thing that seems to fit the facts.

They're bound by the constraints of our legal system in so far as what you describe. I have no doubt that there are corrupt police working in the field of drugs, but this is no different from any field in any service. I suppose you're suggesting that their powers be increased somewhat (so that they could actually hit the drug dealers where it hurts - in their pockets), and recently the UK came out with a law which allows the state to seize the assets of convicted drug dealers - unfortunately, this law is so difficult to enforce that it barely makes a dent in the drug peddling market.

It would be nice to think that law enforcers are trustworthy and could be given more powers to do what the law-abiding majority think is beneficial, but a combination of insane human rights legislation and corrupt officers make this impossible to foresee.

It's not as easy as you think to just "bust" these people many times the FBI works for years to bring down the "big time dealers".

Besides that probable cause is needed in most every circumstance. Police officers are bound by laws and restraints. There is an order of means that needs to be followed.

Some are corrupt, as witnessed here, but the majority are not. These officers are limited by external forces in executing their job to the best of their abilities.

Maybe they made some good investments. Maybe that rich old uncle died and left them a fortune. Irregardless, unless we have Probable Cause, we can't be diggin into someones financials to figure out where they make their money.
