They put feeders out 2 months before deer season, and a soon as deer season opens they slaughter them in the very place that they have been made feel safe to eat. It's just wrong!!!!

I AGREE AND ALLOW ME TO EXPOUND PLEASE
THIS IS NOT HUNTING AT ALL

I AM A HUNTER
I GO INTO THE WOODS AND TRACK AND STUDY AND TRY TO OUT THINK THE DEER IN THEIR TURF
IT IS DIFFICULT AND MORE TIMES THAN NOT I COME HOME WITH NOTHING
BUT THAT IS HUNTING
I HAVE SEEN TV SHOWS AS WELL AS "HUNTING" LODGES THAT DO EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE SAYING
THERE IS NO SPORT

IT SHOULD BE OUTLAWED
I ACTUALLY SAW A PLACE IN TEXAS WHERE A GUY PUT OUT CORN THEN BANGED A WOODEN SPOON ON THE PAIL AND THE DEER CAME RIGHT UP TO HIM TO FEED
HE SAID... GO ON. TAKE YOUR PICK
NO WAY
I FELT LIKE SHOOTING HIM INSTEAD
HUNTING IS HUNTING

I'm a licensed concealed handgun owner. Not that its special to be one really but before the all your flaming commences I 'm just clarifying my position on guns in general. As for the guys question about calling hunting a sport - eh. I dont really do it. Sports are suppose to be difficult. Shooting seems to easy to be called a sport to me. Frankly it doesn't take much skill to shoot a gun or a high powered bow. You point the end at something and move your index finger a tiny bit and bang. That reeeeeally doesnt take that much skill. Or maybe I just find it so easy that I personally do not think it takes skill. I guess I could be that great (hehe) I suppose others not so great might find it pretty difficult to point AND pull a trigger. I know - I know what your thinking (minus the expletives). What do you mean no skill? You have to aim at a target that is moving so its hard. yes you have to aim and to aim in front if something moving in a direction and that might seem complicated for some people - I guess. frankly most people are actually not shooting at a MOVING target but rather a stationary one that is munching on grass or feed. Gimme a break - moving target ya right. I guess if it hears you set down you beer can to pick up your gun it might be moving. If someone was shooting at say... flies and did it successfully and yes I'll even count those big *** horse flies then that I would have to admit would take some skill. But a deer come on now its not like they are small and hard to see. they are not camouflaged and they arent wearing armor. They aren't even waving a gun back - although I would find that amusing if deer could shoot back. Then maybe I'd call it a sport, of sorts. Of course my big foam finger would be rooting for the deer hahahaha Sure sure every hunter wants to say it is difficult cause they want to feel proud like they accomplished something but lets be honest - really honest - if it took that much skill why are so many people able to do it and do it successfully oh and usually while being half drunk. I'm just keeping it real. I learned a long time ago not to take things on the internet so seriously. So lighten up on the guy. He is entitled to his opinion - it does take all kinds to keep society balanced after all. BTW if a person were trying to tackle an alert deer (not sleeping or at a feeder - feeders are totally BS cheating) anywaaaay trying to tackle an alert deer barehanded (that also means no ropes of anykind), just man on deer, 1 on 1 - no ganging up or using vehicles or cheating as such then ok I would call that a sport.

Despite the numerous people saying so, baiting deer is only illegal in some places. In Wisconsin, baiting deer is legal in certain area, in certain amounts in a given amount of land (5 gallons per 40 acres per hunter I believe).

Is this hunting? It really depends on your point of view. I think it is still hunting. I do not think it is a challange and I don't do it personally. However, some people need to put meat on the table (I have met many Wisconsin and Alaska hunters who hunt mainly for meat...no game, no food). If deer is a major food source for a person and their family, I guess they have to do what they have to do to put food on the table.

I don't find baiting deer anymore cruel than how a T-Bone ends up on my plate (as a matter of fact, I find baiting deer less cruel than raising a cow to be killed).

Whether baiting deer is right or wrong is something a person has to decide for themselves.

Black bear is another animal that it is very common (and legal) to bait.

Baiting animals is illegal for a reason. There is no sport involved at all. That is simply wholesale slaughter of the animals in a position where they have learned to feel safe. No real sportsman would ever use such lazy, cowardly tactics. Hunting is no longer needed as a means of survival, its a chance for a human to test their skills against the survival skills of the animals. Anyone who condones such brutal behavior should have their hunting privileges revoked in my personal opinion. Whether your hunting for "sport" or for food, its only right to work on level footing with your quarry. To do otherwise is cowardice, and useless slaughter. I feed deer and other animals because I enjoy watching them, but would never even consider hunting in the same area.

It is illegal to shoot deer over food in most states and counties. I put out food for the deer to eat and as a supplement for their other food. It is a good scientifically proven action to take to help the quality of your deer herd. In most cases, I would disagree with taking a deer over feed.... unless, it was obviously slowly dying from disease or crippled badly, etc...

whaa whaa whaa. You're are entitled to your opinion, but if it's legal I see nothing wrong with it. Similar things are done in fishing - old Christmass tress are placed on top of a frozen pond/lake to give them cover and food in the spring when the ice melts and the trees sink. Chum is used in oceans and gulf. I see no difference. It is a tool available (for some) to maximize your harvest.

it's survival of the fittest.

the smart deer learn to eat at night, when it's illegal to hunt.
