How long will it take for the vegetation to recover fully on fixed dunes following excavation?

The process of succession will start immediately (i.e one growing season) providing the substrate remains relatively undisturbed. Dunes are more fragile, though, because the soil (in this case usually coarse sand sized particles) can easily be blown away by wind action when the roots which bind the soil are removed. A geotextile membrane or windbreak would aid initial growth.

Between three and seven years depending on wind, environment ,and type of prevailing vegetation in the area. Close proximity to chemical plants for example will affect regrowth as will prevailing winds direct from the sea.
